I start anew.

from here at the

time of day

where light races

twilight

longing to

overlap the

darkness, I

plant my

peace into my

mind, asking

God to isolate

the voice of my

lucid thoughts,

a string of clarity

that I hear only

when I’ve made

up my mind to

be sensitive of

sound from my

spirit man,

who covers my

eyes to see with

my heart

just so that

when I finally

open my eyes

to see the physical

world around me,

my mind is

focused and

my observations

are sensational.

this is how I find

peace when the trenches are eye level

to my soul.

dreams

on nights I

can’t rest

easy.

I see you

in the flesh.

I touch your face

ensuring you are

real. you smile at me

and the rest of us

as we all come

together to a

room with a large

window lining the

landscape,

a beautiful scene of

blues and greens adorned

by the sun.

the family is gathered, we

are as one -

but I can’t seem to find you,

you are no longer here with us.

the landscape is overgrown of

vines as time has passed

us by, and what was once

radiant is now

somber. we remain here

residuals to your presence.

you have work in the

morning,

a long day ahead.

we are over 600 miles

apart

and I decide to wait patiently

before being close to you again.

if I could, I would send

paper airplanes through

the night, each describing

how stitched you are to my

heart, my mind, and my soul.

they would say:

I miss you

I truly adore you

I admire your character and

I am constantly inspired by you.

As I am in veritable adoration of

how you choose life,

I hope I don’t lose my grip

on my own aspirations, big or small.

you make achieving goals look

easy,

rewarding and

meaningful.

I am fulfilled at

your joy,

the gesture of your smile

replays in my thoughts

daily;

yet I don’t want to wake you

from your dreams

just like I

don’t want to lose you.

I don’t want to rush us neither.

I do not hold on to you for

dependency, rather

I hold on to your

light. in your heart,

you really are golden.

let’s

see where our plane

takes us. we can travel the

sky’s garden. we’ll explore

places we’ve never

imagined - we can grow

together and

make endless memories

from now until

forevermore.

I once heard

my fervor

intensifies

with reflection.

realization humbles

the deepest

part of me

saddened by our temporary

departure,

I look forward to relying more upon

my self. my creativity craves the

solitude. perhaps this time

I can look for a larger

battle ground where I can

replant my garden, being sure

to remember all that I know

how to grow

and sow the seeds of what I

have been working on this

spring season.

time to do your

adventures in the world -

I know you’re good for it.

You live for the freedom of

choice and exploration.

empty space. My shadows have shadows here, leaving no dark corner untouched.

my sadness is not big enough to fill these empty rooms, yet continues to kiss the corners with its sweet sorrow.

I don’t know who to tell.

under that tree as the moon coursed the starlit sky deep into the night.

you took that part of me away with you

until I spoke poetry no longer to myself or in my mind

leaving me mute

I lost myself when i decided to break away.

best and worst case scenario

when you went away

my heart forgot to keep beating

my pulse misplaced the rhythm of my passion

numbness is too generous of a word to describe what I

became when I decided to stand tall

I won the fight for my life back

but what did I really gain?

I lost all of what I thought I possessed.

I didn’t have my purity or innocence any longer.

what had I become?

stronger

but fearful

nothing

but free to be everything,

to be anything

better

but alone

paranoid that I couldn’t

stop the next person

from breaking me down to dust

when I was already so

disintegrated.

sweet thing.

my Lover gave me a

promise ring.

as our eyes met

upon wake,

I knew my soul would be

kept safe.

genuine,

untouched,

real, and

safe

i've never felt a

"never get lost in the melody alone, listen

for each other's harmony"

and hanging on to these words,

their hearing intensified

and they became stronger

as one.

a track runner

in the 60s

as he encouraged himself to push

through the curves

and further past the finish line.

as he crossed, a cameraman appeared to

his right shoulder and capture

the big white smile sprawled across his face

as his perseverance was evident in

his accomplishment.

from his mind, I stood beside him

and people everywhere gave him

high fives and praises

congratulating his efforts, some of which

he'd seen and didn't know their names

and others who had racially

denounced him prior to winning this sprint

event. he's off laughing with his friends in

his team and people are looking at him,

watching how he moves and the way he

smiles - wondering how he could be cut out

the way he is, wondering how he came to

be so fast so effortlessly.
