The Grampians, Stopover Hostel Easter Road Trip | March 2016
*Missed post* February 2nd - Picking grapes for sultana, 90c a bucket
Day 1 of my farm work... Layered up to keep the flies away but boy it was a hot one!
ROAD TRIPPPP - 25th March 2016
The majority of the hostel were confirmed time off over the easter break where we decided to take a road trip to The Grampians, was so great to escape from Mildura and the constant farm work life. One of the best things about doing farm work is knowing that your all in it together. That everyones been at that stage where you have only been there 3 weeks and someone else only has 3 weeks to go... but you do get there and you meet amazing people along the way!
Meet some interesting creatures during our farm days!!
Mark was lucky enough get a great farm job where he was working as a farm hand on one specific farm allowing him to be given more responsibility, driving the tractors around!! Still hard work but on an hourly wage Sparky was able to build a good relationship with the farmer and enjoy the last few months of his farm work. At this point I was continuing to work at a variety of farms which were eventually hourly wages though sadly didn’t have the comfort of one set farm where I could prove my ability and be given more responsibility.... though as the saying goes... that’s just the way the cookie crumbles!!

FARM WORK
Early mornings, hard labour and a lot of sweat and mud was tough but dayumm they were sometimes worth it for the incredible sunrises we would be able to capture as we started work. Working in 40+ Degrees heat was definitely not my favourite part of the farm work but was better than the repetitive strain we got on our bodies.
Farm work is tough you work as many days as possible to secure your farm days and get out of there (we did anyway) some people stick it our for so long they enjoy it and stay even though their days are complete.. But for Mark and I we continued to look forward at what our next adventure would be!
Working majority for the time per piece getting 90c per bucket for grape picking or 25dollars a bin (BIG BIN) for oranges. The first couple of weeks/month making money wasn’t really your focus, having enough food to eat for the week and getting that extra day signed off was what all that hard work was for.
1st February 2016 - Moving on 10kg’s heavier!
Mark and I loved every moment in Melbourne, it’s such an incredible city with so much going on always new events or cafe’s to check out! and the creativity in the city was so inspiring. Though the time came where we had to pack up and leave the awesome city onto our next adventure where we had to complete 4 months (88 days) of farm work. After being scammed by a mushroom farm we managed to secure ourselves a place in a working hostel in Mildura. Let the new adventure begin!!
26th January 2016 - AUSTRALIA DAY!!
Experience Australia day for all its worth going to see Fat Boy Slim in St Kilda, Melbourne. Cracking day for it!!
Start of January 2016 brought our good friend Sophie to Melbourne, after meeting in Fiji and staying in contact we got to show her around our new fav city...(even though she preferred Sydney) Andy Warhol Exhibition | National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (at National Gallery of Victoria)

Cute flashback to start the return of our blog, New Year 2016... before I smashed my phone and lost majority of our Melbourne pictures | Falls Festival, Geelong ✨
2017..
One year and 5 months down the line, or 544 days away from home...
Mark and I have been enjoying our life on the road so much that we have been forgetting to document our travels. As much as we love having fun in the moment and continue to do so, we have agreed that for 2017 and the rest of our travels we are going to update our travel tumblr as its the best way for us to keep a continual post on our travel life. Thanks to Marks shit memory I fear he’s going to forget a lot of the little things, which brings me to my New Years resolution which is to make sure (with my new canon camera) to make lots of little videos of day to day things that I love about my life.
We are going to do some summery posts about our last few destinations over the last year, from Melbourne to Farm work & time with the family. To where we are now in the Incredible Queenstown.
If I had one thing I wanted to share with everyone back home, that say I’m off ‘living the dream’ and their so ‘jealous’...Don’t be, Go do it! Our life is pretty fucking awesome don’t get me wrong, but its not impossible - go book a flight get a visa, save a bit so you survive out here and go! I have learn’t so much travelling and its crazy to think some people haven’t see other cities or countries. You don’t have to be stuck in the current job you’re in or only see other countries as holiday destination, you can go elsewhere and get that same job though this time it could be in the sun or by the beach or in the mountains, just take chance to live there for a couple months and see what else that country has to offer. Go have fun, see new cultures and meet new people that are amazingly like you!!
Don’t just dream about travelling and wishing you could go away, make it a plan and make it happen! Cause we’re having the best fecking time of our life, I vouch that everyone should do it. - 2017 is gonna be a good’in!!
