Extremely irksome as an autistic person to ask a clarifying question and be told youâre âsplitting hairsâ when you genuinely just donât understand because there isnât enough information. Like, buddy. This is me at my most basic level of âwhat do you mean by that.â You wanna see me split hairs? If you really saw how thin I could slice a hair youâd hurl
I will split a hair into smaller halves every hour my demands of mutual participation in communication are not met
Republicans will definitely use this death for political overreach.

âI felt a quiet sense of power.â
âGood. Remember that feeling.â
I talk a lot about operational worldbuilding, but let's talk about tactical worldbuilding.
By that, I mean the worldbuilding of a character.
Here's an example:
I have an immortal character who was born in Hejaz (part of what is now Saudi Arabia) a couple thousand years ago.
To write his character, here are some world (rather than personality) considerations I need to think about:
What is his relationship with Islam, a religion he pre-dates, particularly given his use of magic?
What languages does he speak? Does he still speak Old Hejazi, even though there are no other living speakers? When he speaks Arabic, does it sound odd or old-fashioned to modern Arabic speakers? He would have learned Koine Greek, so what does his Greek sound like now?
What is his relationship to the magic communities whose origins (and thus forms of magic) post-date his learning magic by over a thousand years?
Those are just a few examples, but they show the types of considerations that you might think of from a worldbuilding sense when creating a character.
How does your character fit within the world? How do their knowledge, background, history, and experiences result from and also impact the world? How would they have ended up where they are, and how would that be shaped by their world?
If they have unexpected skills or knowledge, how did they acquire them in the world they exist in? The answer for how I might know how to ride a horse (a thing I can't do) would be very different than the answer for a woman of my relative social status 150 years ago, but also the literal way of riding a horse would be different.
How your characters live, what they know, what they do, and even what they want is as much a part of worldbuilding as the structure of the government or how many moons there are.

an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc
and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean
and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere
horsepower. turns out it's horsepower.
and I'm absolutely FASCINATED that a commonly used initialism from 1908 now stands for something different AND YET the contextual meaning is still the same to a 21st-century reader
I could hand this guy my nintendo switch and he'd be like, ah yes I understand, this ''''pokemon'''' loses horsepower throughout the fight
language is amazing

That about sums it up.
I love that it rhymes.

Canadian photographer Steve Haining, along with model Ciara Antowski, broke the Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater photoshoot by reaching a depth of 163.38 feet (49.80 meters). The photoshoot took place on the deck of the Hydro Atlantic shipwreck near Boca Raton, Florida. Antowski posed without diving gear, relying on safety divers to supply her with air during the shoot.

đ¨WRITER BEWAREđ¨
I've just gotten an email from a new "self-publishing platform" called Written (written.app), which is making suspiciously extravagant promises about the benefits they offer to authors. After further research, this is just "upload your book with us and we'll make it an NFT :)"
There is a "thesis" that you can read right on their website if you're interested in looking for yourself at the business model of their grift, but if you'd like to save yourself the trouble, I've pulled out some of the highlights of the receipts over on Bluesky. TLDR: I would not touch this platform with a ten-foot-pole. This is not a book-selling platform, this is a Coincidentally Book-Themed NFT Platform.
Oh hey, itâs this shit again. It feels like every few months thereâs a new app promising better royalties to indies and it turns out to be some king of NFT grift.
Also that thesis is bonkers. The hell are they dragging Ao3 into it for?

Just noticed that there hasnât been much, if any, coverage on the mangione trial in like a month. Like since he plead not guilty, there hasnât been any major coverage on the proceedings. I just tried to look up anything about the past month and I genuinely cannot find anything. Nothing about it theyâre still in jury selection, nothing about any rulings, nothing about the defending attorney or even opinion pieces. Like I know why thereâs not much coverage, but nothing at all? Like we got CONSTANT updates about the depp/heard case when it was happening, but now that itâs something about an important issue that would have been the case of the decade in times past, itâs radio silence.
Itâs so incredibly disturbing that theyâve filtered it out of the media and that people donât care enough to demand it be covered. People treated it like a trend and aesthetified it to the point that an actual act of resistance means nothing now.
Also thereâs like no concrete evidence in this case. Itâs all circumstantial. I feel that everyone forgot that, and because of it, the idea that âinnocent until proven guiltyâ as a precedent is very much in the process of being undermined
I re-blogged this (the first time) in 2014. Today, I tried half a dozen times to re-blog it, and it wouldnât work. So, I saved the images and re-posted it. I hope it helps make life a little easier. :-)  The original post is by iraffiruse.
