gotta talk about Confirmed LGBT+ Side Characters because i’m playing a bunch of these books and i’ve realized that there are a Lot more mlm off to the side than wlw and it kinda bites! dgmw i love seeing men in love but there’s a point where it starts to feel a little bit fishy? not for , like, ‘why are there lgbt people’ reasons ovbi but for ‘why arent there wlw’ reasons… 

i’m not gonna say it reads as fetishization (not in like, the way you’d think. it doesnt feel like its supposed to be sexually gratifying or anything) but it definitely reads in that "not alienating our straight woman audience by throwing in ‘safe’ lgbt characters rather than Lesbians who would Scare Them by being Lesbians". not only does the idea of being like a Safer Option to toss your having-rep brownie points into feel kinda gross in a way that Also feels like i want to hit something, but the avoidance of wlw feels ummmmmm 

like somebody might uhhhhhhhhhhh

think that women liking other women are predatory somehow, or something. and tht they’re willing to run alongside that perception in their stories instead of do something useful like fighting against it.
