So the entrance to my new flat is down a little alley off of a very main road (like not tons of car traffic but lots and lots of bikes and pedestrians bc there's tons of shops and restaurants etc) and I love the location in general but I moved in 2 days ago and I'm already sick of how people like to stand in front of the alley to smoke?? There's a gate so they can't actually come into the alley but they'll lean on the gate and then get angry when you try to go through it lmao. And by people I do mean middle aged men exclusively do this.

I got my extension and suddenly everything is okay again. Just gotta finish writing about this cemetery and then I can get a job and move to a beautiful place and write the book I wanna write

Also on the point of class from last night, a couple months ago I went to a Grayson Perry exhibition and talk about someone who has no material understanding of class yet uses the concept to make himself seem woke or whatever!!!!! Omg!!!!!!! The whole narrative was about a person who betrays his working class upbringing by becoming middle class and eventually very wealthy. The working class childhood is depicted as difficult but extremely wholesome and the transition to middle class is depicted as ridden with conflict and family problems, parents beginning to hate each other, and name brand products. I saw this exhibition a week after Grayson Perry was a part of the unanimous vote by board members to appoint George Osbourne as chair of the British museum. You can't claim to be working class, or claim that your art is fundamentally working class, and then turn around and be one of the biggest class traitors in the art world in recent memory. The works themselves were incredible, he's an incredibly skilled artist, but the themes of his work are not always... Good

I think it's really funny and chaotic how some people use "hot take" to mean "totally uneducated/uninformed but firm opinion" and others use it to mean "really, really good and relevant opinion"

Also getting covid is like my biggest fear and I have been so so careful for so long... Like I'm alone here. No one to take care of me. No one to hold my hand in hospital if I get really sick. An acquaintance of mine, my age, just died a week ago. I've spent a lot of the pandemic not scared for myself but for other people, because I know I'm relatively healthy and extremely cautious but most of my family have chronic illnesses of varying levels of severity. But now that it's within my household I'm really scared. My housemate is looking to go find somewhere else to stay so as to not get the rest of us sick if we test negative but I think it's unlikely. I probably have it. I was just in the small kitchen with her and her friend for ages earlier this evening. If they have it it's unlikely I don't right?? It's 2 am and I just want to go to sleep and think about it in the morning but I can't sleep 😭😭😭 I just wanna cry to someone about this but everyone I know is asleep

I know this isn't fair to her but my housemate has tested positive for covid and I am SO PISSED AT HER FOR IT. My laptop broke! I have to go to the library every single day to write my dissertation which is due in two weeks!!! I can't afford to self isolate for ten days I am PANICKING NOW

Hi so I've gotten a lot of new followers lately from a very old post and I just wanna let y'all know the type of blog I have is not so political now, nor am I very active at all because I'm currently writing my dissertation and also job hunting because I'm an immigrant in my country and I need to find a job so I have stability once my student visa runs out. One of my housemates is working two part time jobs at the same research institution. A cool way that academia avoids having to give new PhDs any dignity. He works the equivalent of full time at the same place but they cleverly don't have to give him the same amount of days off and other benefits that full time workers get because he works in two different departments. I don't understand how this is legal. Anyone who says the UK has good labour laws is lying, including when it comes to academia

Did anyone else get absolutely demolished by the Pfizer vaccine. I couldn't sleep last night and threw up 5 times within 2 hours this morning. Hellish. Finally starting to feel better but still too scared to eat
