I've seen people outraged that they don't like the fact that Diamonds (Rihanna) was playing at Hollanova wedding. I didn't get into the point, if so many people are talking about it, is that right?
But then I came across a reddit comment where someone wrote that the word "shine" is heard as "Shane" for a non-native speaker.
I went to listen to this song and really. I hear "Shane."
English is my third language, and learning it is a headache for me, especially by ear. So if I, being crazy about the Canadian freckled hockey player, had heard this song, then yes, I would have heard only his name. I suppose it was the same for Ilya. This song is more than that. She's part of the Hollanov story and love in their big puzzle. The perfect piece.
And I want to recommend to you a wonderful fic by LesCorpsBeauxWhere "Shane bright like a diamond" she lists in English (better than I've ever been able to) all the value of choosing this song at Ilya and Shane's wedding. This is really canonical fanfiction.
