You had four mixed messages from Jin, demanding your presence immediately. Immediately had to wait two hours until you disembarked from Galaxy Express after your latest mission. You intended to head back to your dorm first, but Tohma was at the train station, waiting for you.

"I trust you got his messages? He did complain about being left on read."

"I was on a damn mission." You sighed and rolled your eyes. "What does His Majesty want now?"

"He hasn't disclosed that to me," Tohma answered coolly. "He did insist that I escort you back to Frostheim so you could see to your duties."

"My duties?" You narrowed your eyes at Tohma, ready to shoot the messenger. He only offered a tight-lipped smile in response. "Let's get this overwith."

You were led to Frostheim, up the spiral stairs to Jin's room and entered without ceremony. Tohma did not follow you in.

Jin was reclining on his couch, feet propped up with his shoes on the pillows. You had half a mind to scold him for being slovenly, but he rarely even went out. How dirty could his shoes be?

"If you're going to sleep, that means I can leave, right?"

His head slowly turned to you to give you a wicked side-eye.

"No. Stay."

"Are you sick?"

Jin crossed laced his fingers behind his head and went back to resting his eyes.

"What if I am?"

"Well, are you?" you snapped. You had been there for all of twenty seconds and he was already pushing your buttons. It wasn't that you didn't want to help him. Helping people and bringing order to the chaos was what you did. But you expected respect and gratitude, which should be freely given. His spoiled demands and impatient temper tantrums would get him far less than he expected.

"Massage me, servant."

Your jaw dropped.

"Who the hell are you calling servant?"

"Who the hell is yelling in my room?" Jin didn't even look your direction again.

You two had done this song and dance before. You always relented, if only to get out of his room sooner. This time you marched toward him and sat on the coffee table.

"I'm not in the mood. You massage me instead." You propped your feet on the couch, near his hip. He slowly looked down, incredulous. Confused. He clearly didn't get enough people telling him no. You wiggled your feet, urging him on.

An amused grin split across his face and he sat up.

"Is that what you think is about to happen?" He grabbed your feet and bulled until your ass slid off the table and hit the ground. The sound that leapt out of you was undignified, to say the least, somewhere between a squeak and a grunt. Jin tossed his jacket across your legs so you kept your dignity, since your skirt was pushed up. He stared into your eyes as it dawned on you what you were in for.

He pulled off your shoes at the same time he kicked off his. He propped his foot next to you and rubbed the bottom of your foot with a firm thumb. He expected you to do the same.

You had to admit, you didn't expect to receive a foot massage from Jin. He didn't even seem to mind it. You took that in lieu of him saying please, like you had been tempted to ask for, and acquiesced.

"You haven't asked me about my mission." Having a conversation with Jin while you rubbed each others feet wasn't a tale your friends would believe. What was next? Taiga being a model citizen? No, that was too much of a stretch. Maybe getting Alan in a maid costume? That was about as unexpected as this. If your luck held out after Jin was done with your 'services' you might have to give it a shot.

"Didn't know you had one."

Your hands stilled.

"I told you before I- never mind. Ungrateful man-child." You took out your frustrations on his foot, digging your thumbs in harder, which he didn't seem to mind.

Jin glared at you and grazed a fingertip under your foot. It was far too gentle, and extremely ticklish. You tried to stifle the hysteric laughter that bubbled up, and jerk away. He had a firm hold on your ankle since he anticipated the move.

You opened your mouth to swear at him, but his amusement made you falter. His eyes crinkled at the corners, sapphire eyes twinkling like starlight. He was toying with you. Not maliciously, because he needed this.

Your smile broke free and you playfully swatted him.

You’re in his room again. 

“Hey servant.” 

You look up. Chills run up and down your spine immediately. 

Why are his lips doing that? Why is he baring his teeth? 

“I-I’m sorry,” the words spill out. “Did I...do something wrong?” 

Jin’s ‘smile’ slowly disappears.

Fail. 

Later that night…

“She apologized the second I smiled at her.” 

Tohma nearly chokes on his tea. 

Lucas

“Hmm.” Lucas thinks deeply, hand resting on his chin. “I believe she’s afraid of you because your actions are very brute-like.” 

“Huh?” Jin is already irritated, but seeing Lucas completely sincere, he listens. 

“You see, I constantly tell Kaito and MC that I’ll protect them. And I make sure that my actions align with that promise.”

You’re out on a mission with Jin. His presence is always intimidating. But today, it’s somehow worse. 

“Stay within five feet of me at all times,” he says with a frown. 

And he makes sure you do. 

Wherever you go, he follows close behind like a massive guard dog. Every person that walks by, every shadow in the alleyway gets glared at. 

“Uhhh. Are you ok?” you ask carefully. 

Jin looks at you, or more like accidently glares at you.  

“S-Sorry. It’s nothing.” 

Now he’s confused why you’re apologizing. 

“If you have something to say, say it.” 

“Oh…it’s just that,” you laugh nervously, “you’re so jittery, it’s making me anxious.” 

Jin goes still. 

Fail. 

Later on the mission…

Lucas asks how it went. 

“She said my presence makes her anxious.” 

“...Oh dear."

Kaito

“Maybe being…nicer?” 

“What’d you say, you brat?” 

“Kyaa,” Kaito yelps. “I-I’m sorry.” 

Jin shakes his head, massaging his forehead from the stress. 

“...No. Continue.” 

“Y-You know,” Kaito says cautiously, “like wording things prettier. Saying please and thank you.” 

___

You bring over a cup of tea and accidentally spill it. 

“Are you dumb? Why’d you–” Jin abruptly stops himself. His expression twists like he’s physically fighting for his life. “I mean…” The words sound stiff. Awkward. “Everybody makes mistakes.” 

Silence.

Somehow that scares you even more. 

“I-I’m sorry, I’ll get more immediately!” 

You scurry away. 

___

“Bring that over here.” He pauses. “...Please.” 

Your hands shake slightly as you set it down like he might explode at any second.

Jin looks at you. 

“Thank you.” 

Your eyes widen. 

Is he possessed by an anomaly or something???

Fail.

After that…

Kaito screams as he sees a figure rapidly approaching him down the hallway.  

It's a pissed off Jin.

“It didn’t work. Come back here, you brat.”

Darkwick Uniform

For me, this outfit really shines with how confident Jin tries to present himself to others. He doesn’t want to be seen as weak (or to hide the fact that he is unable to use his stigma without aide). He’s wearing his school jacket over his shoulders much like a cape rather than the standard way. This shows he’s not above breaking conventional uses for clothing. Daring, even. But his uniform is still maintained and neatly put together. Nothing looks out of place and everything feels like it was intentionally worn this way.

There is also his necklace, which is displayed with pride. The top button undone to reveal what he’s wearing. This, to me, shows that he clearly cares for this particular piece of jewelry. Willing to show it off in such a brazen way. His tie loose to even show this off. The one area where he ‘slacks’ in his more uniformed appearance.

House Uniform

Again, with this outfit we see a jacket/coat that is hanging from Jin’s shoulders opposed to wearing it the ‘standard’ way. His coat also has a fur collar, which indicates a need for warmth as well as giving him a more ‘kingly’ aura. It also shows Jin’s wealth, as furs are not necessarily cheap (especially white fur that maintains a clean look).

There are also many metal fastenings. Metal can be quite pricy and the bulk of them on this uniform shows importance, status, and (once again) wealth. Having many metal fixtures also indicates a sort of utilitarian need for things to be orderly and neat. Each serving a purpose while also being flashy.

Finally, there are Jin’s boots in this outfit. Tall black boots that give a firm and leaderly look to pull the outfit together. These boots are not for everyday wear. And they’re certainly not for hard physical labor. But they’re more for boots of traversing and ‘leading’ the way.

Casual Clothes

With this outfit, we see the jacket off the shoulders. A common theme for Jin. His shirt having vertical pinstripes, which gives a taller appearance. Black being a power color (which is bold and easy to hide any stains). However, the white pants offset this, still adding a powerful appearance that commands attention. He has a very clear ‘business-like’ appearance here, while also coming across as someone that does not mess around and gets straight to the point.

The finer details are not lost on Jin, though. The pendant around his neck contrasting against the very professional ‘black and white’ look he has going on. A pop of color that draws your eyes towards it. Perhaps another piece of jewelry that holds significance to Jin.

Masquerade Outfit

This outfit is one of the first outfits we see Jin wear in a formal setting (if you don’t exclude his house uniform at the ball). He’s wearing a half-mask. To me, this indicates his importance. Only having half of his face hidden while the rest is in view. He’s not afraid to hide that he belongs in this setting while still fitting with the masquerade theme required of him.

Additionally, the majority of the outfit is white. A color that can easily stain. While the shirt is a teal shade- setting him apart from the other ghouls in this mission who have a darker blue. There are also the two tassels attached to him, whereas the other Frostheim ghouls have 3 tassels. This shows, to me, that he has a higher rank and should be treated as such.

There is also the addition of a cape, this time. Rather than the jacket hanging off of his shoulders. Though, with this being an outfit for a mission in a highly professional (and high society) setting, it would make sense that he adheres to ‘social norms’, rather than flaunting too much. He is among others of ‘his rank’ and should act accordingly.

Waves of Love Outfit

Here, we see a different side of Jin. A side that is trying to impress someone. His hair is styled differently (part of the bangs neatly pushed back), no jacket hanging off of his shoulders, and various other tells that he is trying to show his best side while being a little more unsure of himself. He’s not presenting in an overly confident way, in this outfit.

For starters, we see another necklace displayed. This one is not as eye drawing. The shirt not unbuttoned in a manner of display. Nor is it a pop of color that forces your eyes to draw to it. It’s simply there. Then, we also see a pair of sunglasses resting in his pocket. Sunglasses can have a variety of meanings. And I think, here, it symbolizes privacy. After all, Jin is a private guy. And him wearing the shades over his heart, to me, showcases that he’s willing to share his privacy with MC (the one he’s trying to impress).

There’s also the white shoes with the buckle. White shoes are notoriously difficult to keep clean. Constantly picking up dirt. Yet, Jin’s are immaculate. A testament to his wealth as white is a huge indicator of money (especially if it can be kept clean). Not to mention the thumb ring. Thumb rings typically are worn as ‘family rings’ or ‘king rings’. Something to show wealth and status.

Finally, there are two more pieces I want to point out. The conch lapel and the two-point pocket fold. The conch sticks with the seaside theme for the episode while also holding deep symbolism for unity, order, and authority. This fits overly well for Jin, who is an authority figure to many. He also seems to be searching for some sort of order (his stigma allowing him to also ‘order’ others around). And unity. The want to unite something. Perhaps- unite him and MC? After all, he’s putting in quite the effort to showcase a different side of himself, here.

Then, we have the two-point pocket fold. This man really knows style. He made sure to keep the fabric of the pocket fold lighter than the shirt he’s wearing and went with a traditional fold that’s still more eye catching than a single point. But not as showy as a stair/3-point fold. He’s keeping it classy. Showing off just enough of himself to draw your eyes to him.

Swimwear

Our final outfit for the day, Jin’s swimwear outfit. This is the most relaxed outfit we’ve seen Jin in. Honestly, it almost feels completely out of his element. Still, he sticks to solid, classy colors that demand respect and give off a sort of commanding vibe. Again, we see him wearing a necklace. This one a bit more casual. But it’s still there. Still being shown off to a degree. His lack of clothing shows some level of comfort with being exposed to others. He’s not afraid to hide who he is (when it comes to MC). His sandals are sleek and comfortable while remaining stylish. They also seem to offer some support to keep them from slipping off easier than flip flops would. So Jin still has secure footing.

Overall Thoughts

With the outfits we’ve seen Jin in, so far, it’s easy to tell that he’s a very pointed person. Showy but not too showy. He knows he’s an important person and not afraid to let others know this. However, he doesn’t make a mockery of himself or over-indulge either. His outfits could be considered classy with their color scheme, patterns, cuts, etc. Nothing too bold about his choices. He’s a simple man, in all honesty. But also complex. As there are small giveaways of things that he deems important enough to break the standards to show off. With how he wears his coats, I do think that’s a forced projection of being confident, as he very much has insecurities about his stigma. Still, he gains confidence with MC around. And so- in Waves of Love, we get to see a side of him that he seems to only reserve for someone he truly cares about.

Or I’m thinking too much into it.

super fascinated by that background there, but lets talk about what the card means first!

the moon card is one that first and foremost represents illusion and uncertainty. hi shion welcome to the card fitting too well club. the og tarot card has imagery of a dog on either side, of two towers bordering the path, of reflections in the water--there's two sides of everything. it represents being awake and being asleep, the duality of your feral side and also being civilized, it represents truth and lies. if the moon is coming up in a general reading, then there could be something that is hidden from you, or something being kept from you, and you need to seek out the answer and the truth.

when this card comes up in more specific readings with a question, like a love reading or a career reading for example, it represents uncertainty. there's something about the current situation that's making you feel unstable or unsure, and you need to look inwards to find what's causing those feelings. your environment can be full of misunderstandings, emotions are complicated, and it's important to take a step back and look inwards to "clear the waters," so to speak.

the main point of the card is illusion. something is not clear, something is a trick of the light, something is a lie, and you need to do some work to get to the bottom of things.

shion's entire thing from the get go has been illusions, as has been dionysia. it's heavily implied he's the mermaid (his form being an illusion) and he does card tricks and move things around. there's emotional turmoil between him and haru and also the sinostra ghouls.

i love this card for him so much, esPECIALLY the background!! we can see the reflection of the moon in the water, another allusion to the illusions this card represents. it also, interestingly enough, is drawn to look like a glitch. that's a fascinating design choice in my opinion
