The only parts of this episode that I like are the scene where Dean tells John he has a family and any scene with Cas and Dean. :)

That part was Dean’s coming out to his father scene, and I won’t be convinced otherwise.

I like to imagine that somehow Cas’s grace is reaching out to Dean and knows it needs to be intertwined around him, even if Cas cannot explain it.

I agree with that too! I’ve read a few fics that explain it as Cas’s grace and Dean’s soul being completely intertwined into each other and that’s why Dean takes it so bad when he loses Cas but also no matter what, those two will always find each other no matter what universe and timeline they get flung to.

Yuppp that’s the main fic I was alluding to and I love it. Dean being the one to release Cas from the Empty as the reverse of Cas originally saving him is how the show should have ended! I do think there may be one or two other fics that talk about their soul/grace bond though.
