Reading the Results of an Egg Cleansing

Egg cleansing is a pretty common type of curse removal. In summery, you rub a fresh egg over the victim and focus on forcing all the negativity into the egg. It absorbs the curse/hex/negative energy and you can discard the egg, and with it the bad junk. There are many methods of doing this, and many other nuances from different traditions, and one specific facet of this that has always interested me, but has just been out of reach. Mostly because the version I want to know more about is Mexican, the Mexican side of my family doesn’t know I’m a witch, and my Spanish is horrible, so research is difficult.

I want to learn how to read the results of the egg cleansing. They say you can learn a lot from the look of the egg once you crack it open. Who or what has been effecting you, and why. You can divine advice with it. You can do a lot, but most of the information I can find is in Spanish, or not the most reliable sources (throwing in words like chakra and karma, in that specifically western misunderstanding/culture appropriation way, and that’s not even the culture I’m trying to learn some magic from right now, thanks).

But today, the topic came up on one of the facebook groups I’m part of, and someone in the comments said “Reading the yolk and whites traditionally help determine the source. At least in Mexican witchcraft.”, so obviously I asked if they could explain how, because I was having trouble finding sources. So they were nice enough to do this whole write up and said I could share it with everyone!

Mexican folk brujería is very centered in cleansing (through limpias) and eradicating some particular things like black magic, envidias (envy), and mal de ojo (evil eye). You’ll notice most interpretations revolve around these. Eggs are also used as a scrying tool in pretty much the same fashion. After passing the egg around the person, you need to crack it to read it. Use a transparent glass that you’re going to use only for reading eggs from limpias. The glass needs to be filled with water and a tablespoon of salt. Break the egg and place only the yolk and whites in the glass. It can be disposed of in the sink or toilet, no worries. -Bubbles around the yolk or floating towards the surface: the person has “aire”, a traditional illness that causes low energy levels due to excess negative energy being accumulated. -Any sort of figure, like animals, objects, etc: they are open to interpretation like tea leaves or coffee grounds. Seeing people can be a) the person who is hexing you, or b) the spirits trying to give you a message. It really depends on how you “feel” the faces look through expressions, color, etc. -Spikes towards the surface: envy, someone is trying to block or harm you. -Clouds around the yolk: means someone around you is causing trouble -red /black dots: excessive negative energy. If combined with spikes and clouds, it means physical illness. Watch for any shapes to clarify. -Down-ward spikes: you’re holding back your emotions, they can be harmful. -Spirals or knots: untreated physical illness that needs attention. -Yolk goes to the bottom: taken as a sign of being hexed -Eyes: Mal de ojo (evil eye) -Geometrical shapes: associated with physical symptoms associated with emotional disturbance. Triangles mean guilt, squares that you need to leave something behind. -White halos around the yolk: Avoid making reckless choices. -Egg looks “cooked” (the yolk appears less bright, whites are opaque): There is negative energy or hexes around you. -Fine threads: gossip around you. -Cobwebs: envy -Flowers: good luck, blessings -Faces: spirits are sending you messages and you need to pay attention to the signs around you. -Egg breaks in the middle of the limpia: it has absorbed too much negative energy. Depending on what you feel, you can use another egg or assume this one has absorbed everything. -Bad smell on an egg that’s supposed to be fresh: a clear sign that a hex has been absorbed. This can be done once or, if needed, for a whole week using the same egg. The egg, after cracked, should be left to rest for a day to interpret it.
