was a summer thunderstorm where the sun was out, a fox wedding or the devil's battered wife depending on where you ask, and the screams and laughter of little kids floated thru my open windows, and i remembered how i used to play in the rain. i was a little kid at somebody's house with grammy, she was always carting me around trying to acquaint me with relatives but ive always kind of been in my own world so i never remembered who was who and plus i thought i'd have more time with grammy to figure it out, and i went running barefoot in the rain splashing in puddles with another kid, not sure who. the adults smiling watching us and ready with towels when we came inside. and another time when my grammy had that little white poodle, this might have been actually my last time spent with who was once my closest cousin, i think about her a lot more than she probably thinks of me, her dad never liked me, they werent even at my grammys funeral. adults and kids both always had the wrong impression of me, because of my autism or whatever, and so i was very lonely which only made me more weird...anyway this isnt about that, this is about the day we ran around the golf course my grammy lived on with that sweet puppy, ran all over, all around the ponds and sand pits and woods. cupped our hands and drank rain water, i gave some to the puppy, her name was mercy spelled merci. one rainy morning i was crossing to the high school from the megachurch parking lot, and i slipped down the muddy slope and badly scraped my ankles. i didnt care, i was numbed to everything back then, which made me more weird. not wanting to be late for class i held my shoes and walked through the halls leaving bloody, muddy, wet little puddles in my wake until the blood and mud dried on my feet. my feet were very calloused all through my teens. i sincerely never understood why everyone ran to get out of the rain when it began to pour on the way to the bus stop. when it rained i always took my shoes off, especially when walking from building to building outside, the way you do at home or in a temple.
