I wanna say something after the shutdown of simplyplural, ampersand, and octocon
when I say this, please understand I sympathize with everyone who is struggling with the news. a lot of people are anxious, sad or angry. You lost a resource that is important to you, and helped you manage a difficult disorder. There aren't a lot of alternatives available right now, and the change of adapting to new resources is hard for people, esp traumatozed people, you have the right to feel all of that, you deserve to be allowed to
what we need to talk about, though... is how there being NO support system for these developers might be contributing. think about it, you're one developer on your own, and suddenly thousands of people are using your app, they have questions, demands and expectations, and not all of them are nice to you when you don't satisfy them
all of the developers said "its too much" one after the other. might imply the community needs to introspect more about their treatment of these people who are creating a service for them, people keep moving from person to person, asking, demanding, expecting, being unkind when those expectations aren't met, and then when it fails because that's all on the shoulders of one person, they say "god, it happened again, why can't these developers get it together?" when really they didn't have any kinda support system to. obviously they should accept help too, that's the issue though, neither the inside or outside is providing any support system.
gotta think about that for future apps, how can we make support systems better? more kind? how can we accept help... otherwise someone else is gonna come back and say "it's too much'' all over again
