Rosemary as Madohomu. I read homestuck for the first time this year, at the big ole age of 19! I was pleasantly surprised by the canon gay relationship and the quality of Rose Lalonde. I would really love to see Rose vs Kyubey, I think she would have a decent shot but likely would end up getting Doc Scratched. Though turning into a devil, yeah totally a rose move. I actually can't choose who would be Homura and who would be Madoka between Rose and Kanaya. It feels like Kanaya is more often the one chasing after Rose like Homura, especially after having read the epilogues. Also Madoka's mum drinks quite a bit and they have some really interesting mother daughter chats that I can see Rose fit right into. I think Vrisrezi would be Koyoko and Sayaka but I can't choose on who would be Mami :(
I thought I would recreate a screen cap for this piece but I couldn't actually find a frame where devil Homura and god Madoka are together. I also had struggles colouring. I wanted to keep Madoka's dress pink and insert some of Kanaya's green but it ended up a bit muddy :/ There also aren't a lot of between shades either, white dress, black dress, blond hair, black hair, white skin, glowing skin. It was hard trying to make this cohesive. I wanted to post it right away but I kept trying to get Glaze to work >:( and eventually I had to give up.
The Beast that Bothers
I feel like in the rush of “throw out etiquette who cares what fork you use or who gets introduced first” we actually lost a lot of social scripts that the younger generations are floundering without.
A lot of tough situations where we now feel like we “don’t know what to do or say” had social scripts just a couple of generations ago and they might have been canned phrases or robotic actions but they could still be meant sincerely and unfortunately we haven’t replaced them with any more sincere or easier new script.
a lot of people are giving examples in the notes of things they just find annoying like not using headphones in public, but OP is talking about actual literal scripts of things to say in awkward situations
if you have a date or two with someone and you don't see a relationship developing? most millennials / gen Zers just end up ghosting. but a social script that might have been taught and rehearsed in the past could be:
"I really appreciated getting dinner with you the other night and I enjoyed your company, but I'm afraid I didn't feel a spark. I wish you the best, and hope you find that special someone!"
like it sounds kind of trite but it was at least something to say and it can still be meant with kind sincerity. it also communicates in 2 sentences that you don't want to see them romantically again, but there aren't any hard feelings about that. that's it!!! that's all it takes!!!
Another example is that at parties a lot of people talk about how awkward it is to mingle or talk to people they dont know. But at old timey parties that was traditionally the HOST'S job, and there was a specific scripted way of doing it that eased the process! The host would bring you in, introduce you and maybe even a little bit about you like what you did for a living, and then guide you to a group you could talk to. They didn't just let you in the door and then ditch you to fend for yourself in a sea of strangers. That would be unthinkable and no one would be surprised if a get-together like that wound up being awkward.
A really good host would actually provide a topic of conversation based on things you and the person they were introducing you to had in common.
At networking events I've gone to, where there's no host who knows everybody, good networkers pick up the slack. They go around the room once making just enough small talk to learn some useful info about a good portion of of the people in the room, and then circle back around and go, "Oh hey I was just talking to X over there and he's looking for someone who does Y for his next project; you should go talk to him." You can do something similar at parties, referring people to other people you made smalltalk with you have the same hobbies or like the same kind of movies.
To take a few steps back up the thread to the part about turning down future dates, the same goes for turning down shitty job offers.
"[Thank you for your interest]/[Thank you for thinking of me for this role], however I'm afraid [I have prior commitments]/[I'm not a good fit] at this time. I wish you the best of luck [finding the right fit for your company]/[with your startup endeavor]"
Delete or substitute more relevant lines as appropriate, but it's a polite way of saying "no" without feeling like you need to overexplain.
Increasingly, people -- millennials and younger, rarely anyone older -- will not get the hint about this and get pushy, fishing for extra information to let them work around the Polite No, which in previous generations would have been incredibly rude. It's still incredibly rude, at which point the polite response is, "Thank you, but I gave you my final answer. Best of luck!" no matter how many times they come back. Become a broken record until they go away.
you hear a lot of theorizing about how 19th and 20th century formal etiquette was Meant To Enforce Class StratificationTM, and to be sure some of the more inane minutiae definitely was. but a lot of the basic rules and forms were meant for exactly this: to provide a roadmap for social situations so nobody felt awkward or uncomfortable
If people are interested in historical ways of hosting and etiquette, I recommend checking out dowagersdressmaker on IG and watch his Edwardian etiquette series. Really helps highlight on how a host/hostess is/was supposed to make sure all their guests are comfortable and having a good time. He also does a spot on Maggie Smith impression.
i love these tags this person is so right
actually, can you imagine if dave was raised by B1 roxy?
i wanna get into this actually
(ok i had to spend a few hours rewriting this because IT DIDNT FUCKING SAVE AFTER FIVE HOURS OF WRITING WHEN MY COMPUTER UPDATED WHILE I WAS AFK so it would mean a lot to show this post some appreciation. i LOVEEE hearing what other people have to say)
even though these things mom does are presented in an extravagant, kitsch, jokey way, her intentions always came from a place of sincerity. she is simply Funnie
but rose reads too far into it and assumes things that aren't there, that her mother is passive-aggressively feigning interest in rose's interests simply because the things she does are so extra. "why do all of this if not to mock me"
im telling you right now if dave lived in this household he wouldn't assume antagonism, he'd go,
don’t forget who LITERALLY patented tangible jpeg artifacts as their post-scratch adult self and scattered shitty scummed up statue of liberties all over the planet. theres no way some of that overboard artful shit wasnt post-ironic / circling back around to genuine funny sincerity
dave's natural state is funny sincerity like roxy. he's had the natural capacity for this type of humor from the start and this is the direction he goes towards when he grows out of his brother's shadow by the end of the comic. dave and roxy share an earnest “so bad its good” type of humor
(lots more under the cut; the length of this meta analysis just got unwieldly with all the pictures and whatnot)
im not exaggerating when this is one of the best additions ive gotten on any post, EVER, in my over 10+ years of being on this site
#Dave Lalonde would know what conditioner is and bathe regularly therefore unlocking The Curl #meanwhile Rose Strider would go full daddy's little princess #she would straight up kill that clown at her 5th birthday and then at her next one Bro would get 6 clowns and set up a fencing tournament #fully by the book the clowns are wearing full plain white fencing uniforms with red noses badly safety clipped to the face guards. #otherwise unidentifiable as clowns #but she knows. #the bloodlust remains. #rather than a pallet of cinderblocks Bro would deck out her room with a knockoff disney princess theme #like Mom Lalonde's secret bedroom in the ectobiology lab #but worse #the giant princess doll would still be gifted but it's lovingly handstitched and has emo makeup #as a joke that he knows she would want to Fix it but look he knows that so now she Cant so she has to figure out what would be a creative #yet ironic response #she of course is given unrestricted credit card access for their gift giving battles #in response to the fridge being filled with swords she gets an umbrella storage rack and puts that in the fridge #in steal of course #so they don't fall out at unsuspecting snackers #Bro adds some katana handled umbrellas and hooks a convenience store display of rain ponchos to the side #(meanwhile its still in the fridge) #so Rose makes a detailed 1950s style gelatin mold salad #she sets it on the counter next to the fridge under an oversized silver serving dish with a note about how she expects feedback #on her attempt to confirm to traditional femininity #the mold isnt set #its just a pile of sticky room tempature hard boiled eggs and cocktail sausages covered in lime jello #Bro diligently writes a review with pictures and posts in on a website he created and populated with comment bots for when this happens #the sites titled something like Puppet Princess's Piquant Plates and his reviews are in character as smuppet parodies of historical figures #rose buys 2 pairs of traditional Yellow rainboots and places them by the door #Bro is courteous and moves the fridge katana stand to by the boots. #he then perfects the salad recipe before Rose gets a chance and writes a terrible review of it in the voice of smuppet Tutankhamun #Rose is losing the irony battle but now the fridge has food in it again.

For people who weren't at SAHcon
Apparently the creators of The Unofficial Homestuck Collection have revealed that they've been working on an online website version of it, making it readable on mobile and available for people who don't have 4 gigs of storage to spare.
The Flash elements are all emulated using Ruffle, and it has mods built into it (that you can add and remove at your leisure).
It was only just released to the public yesterday, so it may have some bugs, but it does currently have (from what I can tell) the entire thing, including the archives of the other MSPA comics like Jailbreak and Problem Sleuth.
Dude the Jedi are literally one of THE most fascinating and inspiring good guys / heroes / protagonists I’ve seen in a story and so is their whole philosophy and their teachings. There’s so much depth and sense to them and what they do and why. You can literally learn such useful lessons through them, adult or child.
So I really don’t understand all this anti Jedi nonsense and this idea that we need to be super critical about them and blame them, because apparently the villains / antagonists deserve to be put on a pedestal and excused for everything they do (*cough* murder, genocide, slavery, etc.) because they sad at times with a at times sad backstory.
And the fact that even writers within Star Wars feel like that, instead of taking the Jedi as they are and have always been meant to be perceived as, is so saddening.
It doesn’t take long to take the time, especially as a writer, and look into the Jedi's origins and what GL wanted to tell with his story, especially in terms of evil and good and the concept of balance and being in control of yourself specifically your darkest and most negative characteristics and emotions.
And this whole idea of Jedi being arrogant just because they strive the be the best version of themselves is getting so annoying. Like come on, that’s just your envy and insecurities shining through.
Star Wars is literally the only fandom that has debates on the obvious good guys and it’s so infuriating. Like especially when the antagonists are literal space Nazis who torture and kill anyone and anything in their way or a bunch of ignorant politicians but sure hate the friendly space wizard that just wants peace for everyone.
These tags should be seen.
#the way i see it the jedi are a representation of what we should aim to be#they encourage us to be mindful of our feelings#to not act mindlessly based on what we feel at the moment#to have control over ourselves and our actions bc they can and will have consequences for us and others#and people just don't like#they're used to overpowered characters that release a huge amount of power in moments of anger or pain#like a sith#but star wars doesn't work like that#the message of those films is that acting out of negative emotions will hurt others and yourself#holding onto anger and pain and fear to the point of acting on it is explicitly shown to be a path to the dark side#a miserable path for yourself that'll bring nothing but more suffering#but people don't like that#they're used to stories telling them to feel and do whatever they like and not ''hold themselves back''#which isn't exactly bad except that it usually portrays the implicit impression that self control is bad and toxic#so to see the jedi having this cool power and not let their emotions give way through huge demonstrations of it bothers them#bc to them having control over yourself and your emotions = being repressed and having no emotions#anyways that's just how i personally see it#plus i don't think it's too wrong to say that anything that moves away from the western christian culture bothers westerners a lot#that's why these days (and even before too) people love and praise the mandalorians and hate on the jedi#bc mandalorians are very similar to what we're culturally used to while the jedi way is based more on eastern religions and philosophy#again this is just how i view it#pro jedi#in defense of the jedi
