IMAGINE: GOING ON A DATE WITH A BARISTA WHO FLIRTED WITH YOU, AND ROSE TRYING TO STOP YOU BECAUSE SHE HAS FEELINGS FOR YOU.

“Where are you going?” Rose raises an eyebrow at you as she sees you heading for the elevator. She sits up from the couch as you look at her over your shoulder, and you shrug.

“Remember that barista from last week? They actually wrote their number on my cup. We’re going out on a date.” you explain nonchalantly, and Rose practically chokes on nothing upon hearing this. Before you can press the button for the elevator, Rose scrambles to her feet, quickly inserting herself between you and the elevator to block you. Raising an eyebrow at her, you ask, “What’s wrong?” 

“You can’t go.” Rose tells you, and you frown. You’ve never seen Rose look so genuinely upset, and she shakes her head as she insists, “You… you just can’t.”

“Why not?” you splutter, unable to understand the situation. “I’ll be fine, Rose, I’ll be back before you even kno—”

Holy cow, folks, we need your help. I need your help. Just a few minutes of your time, please.

So today is July 13th, 2026 and it is the deadline for submitting public comments regarding a proposed rule change by the federal government which would allow for political appointees to have more power and sway in how federal grants are funded.

That's billions and billions of taxpayer dollars towards scientific and biomedical research that would have a lot more political influence including the president being able to write executive orders to sway how grants are funded.

Doesn't matter if you're a Republican, Democrat, or independent, this is a bad idea. It could cause ripple effects for generations to come for the United States.

Our ability to conduct research should not be influenced by politicians. It needs to be separate and this rule change would have significant impacts on that.

It's like saying a fire department is normally going to put out fires based on the greatest need but now city leaders are going to have influence on which fires get put out first.

Even with the best intentions, you can see where the conflicts of interest could come about. Please engage with this post and share it widely.

like I've said, I don't care about myself. I'll deal with being homeless if I have to. I just can't lose my cat of six years or have him go through the anxiety of being rehomed.

between previous rent, bills, groceries, and having to take lyfts to my surgeon's office that isn't on a bus route, what I had budgeted for being off work with disability pay (only 60% of my paycheck) isn't enough.

I'm $800 short on rent even after a three week extension and I'm looking at eviction.

if you can't help, I understand. If you're tired of me making these posts, believe me, I'm tired of having to make them. I wish I had community in real life but the ones I do are even more poor than I am. For anyone who donates, I will send money back in July when I can withdraw from my 401k if needed.
