I think these would be good ways to jumpstart the morning in a class. I have the imagination of making my own wall signage as my artwork in ball point pen (sort of emulating an art gallery) or create my own ‘in a jar’ renditions.
The Sun is an independent, ad-free monthly magazine that for more than forty years has used words and photographs to invoke the splendor and heartache of being human. The personal essays, short stories, interviews, poetry, and photographs that appear in its pages explore the challenges we face and the moments when we rise to meet those challenges. Writing from The Sun has won the Pushcart Prize, been published in Best American Short Stories and Best American Essays, and been broadcast on National Public Radio.
After an outraged mother complained that her daughter with Down syndrome and others with special needs were left out of the yearbook, school officials are changing course.
This is awful.

First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won’t. Habit is persistence in practice.

I googled, what to do when a kid screams, swears, and calls you names after seeing an unclick-able link and found a podcast on Nonviolent Crisis Intervention & CPI Training,
[...As a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Certified Instructor, Maria is often asked to problem-solve tough situations. She had just trained the two special ed teachers in the CPI program, but they believed that no amount of training would help them handle this child’s behavior.
So when Maria visited their classroom, she started by standing quietly off to the side. As the boy entered the classroom, he told her to get out of his way—she was blocking the bathroom pass hook—and when she didn’t move fast enough for the boy, he repeated, “Get out of my way, b****!”
Now all eyes were on Maria with that “Now what?” look on their faces. But here’s what happened next: …]

I was substituting a 5th grade class and at the end of the day, one of the students put this song on. The student who put it on said, ‘everyone loves this song and it helps everyone get ready to leave.” When I sub, I try my best to make it a ‘regular day,’ so I was totally fine with it.
All the students just immediately got this overwhelming feeling of ‘cool.’ They were trying so hard to rap each word precisely and would look down and whisper the song. It was like everyone was in a trance of concentration that none of my spoken words could do. This is/was amazing #powerofrap HeckYes!

The motto ‘think before you act’ may be more powerful than people think. In a working paper published by the US National Bureau of Economic Research this month, researchers found that a simple, cost-effective after-school program for Chicago high-schoolers focused on slowing down their decision-making process significantly lowered crime and dropout rates for participants and boosted school attendance.
Teaching meditation to kids in Chicago swiftly reduced crime and dropout rates.

The boys with ADHD who moved more during the test performed better than the boys with ADHD who did not move around. They also performed better than the boys who moved around but who did not have ADHD. Rapport has shown in previous research that kids with ADHD only show excessive movement when they’re using executive functions like working memory, reasoning and problem-solving. The new study appears to show that physical movement not only occurs alongside these important brain functions, but seems to facilitate them. Instead of encouraging children to sit quietly in their chairs, we should consider allowing them to sit on activity balls or at exercise bikes while they work, according to Rapport. ‘Movement is functional rather than purposeless.’

here is a list of things in no order:
1. i’m going to start using this tumblr page that I haven't used in over a year as a digital bulletin board for my current grad studies. I’m one month in at Washington Governors University in the Teachers College for K-12 Special Education. Tumblr hopefully will keep my brain refreshed in a creative & fun way alongside seeing other peoples’ posts of cute kittens, monumental stories, quotes, and other nonsequitur gems.
2. These are taking over my life:
3. This is helping me/I am helping myself (aka applying metacognitive skills for studying & planning):
