And the fact that she's the one that jumped in and put an end to the struggle, I think, again just shows him how much she cares for him — not necessarily as a love interest, but just as a human. I feel like Bradford does understand that risk, especially being a military dude. But again, it didn't have to be her. In that moment, everything is moving so swiftly, and her brain is also like, "Get in the car! Let's go after him right now!" It's one of the wonderful ways that Lucy as a character is really quick-thinking on her feet, and she does what is needed in the moment. Breaking up with the one good thing he has, because he feels like he’s undeserving is such a Tim Bradford move. He’s also someone that has never had unconditional love, and has always been in it alone.

Right now, he feels like everything he never wanted to be. A liar, a traitor.

Lucy Chen, is goodness personified. He’s said it himself many times in many ways. And now, he thinks he doesn’t deserve that. He’ll “taint” her, in a way.

Because she deserves the best. He is not the best. Right now. He doesn’t understand that Lucy loves him regardless. She loves him unconditionally. She wants to help him, be by his side when he’s in the trenches. But he can’t see that.

So he lets her go.

I said this in a comment somewhere this past week, that while Tim thinks Lucy is worth any and all risk. He doesn’t think he is. And that is his unresolved trauma talking.

I have no doubt Lucy is going to see right through this quickly. Yes he walked away from her, yes he left her, but it wasn’t because he didn’t want her. That kiss on her head spoke volumes.

I think her history with psychology is going to help her understand his motives. And be one of the main factors in taking him back.

Because once he’s out of this fog, this haze of trauma, he’s gonna go “what the fuck did I do.” And go right back to her and say sorry.

They’ll talk. Really talk and find their way back to each other.

And I don’t think Lucy is going to just say, “he broke up with me. I’m done” she’s going to fight. Just like he would if he was in his right mind.

I can’t just go back to the way things were. Not right now. Maybe never. Wait. Are you breaking up with me? I’m sorry. You don’t— you don’t get to do that. You don’t get to lie to me and then use that as an excuse to leave me, okay? That’s not okay. That’s not okay. I know. What you’re doing is not okay. I know.
