October 16th is Global Cat Day! This observance was created in 2001 to encourage people around the world to take steps to improve the health of and reduce the numbers of unowned outdoor cats in their communities. Cat fanciers can celebrate the day through actions like supporting local shelters and getting involved in local Trap-Neuter-Return programs (there is, in fact, such a thing as too many cats!). This gif was created from an 1889 glass plate negative in the Hagley Library’s P.S. du Pont Longwood photographs collection (Accession 1969.002). The photograph was taken at Phillips Academy, where Pierre S. du Pont’s brother, Henry Belin du Pont, was a student from 1888 to 1890. Léonor FINI et ses chats (1908-1996) Née à Buenos-Aires d'un père argentin et d'une mère italienne. Elle passe sa jeunesse en Italie après la mort de son père. En 1937 elle part à Paris où elle rencontre André Breton qui la fait entrer dans le groupe des surréalistes. Mais sa passion ce fut les chats, qu'elle posséda en grand nombre, Jusqu'à 17, qui envahissaient son atelier….
