Play as a Tool for Assessment ~ Documentation Challenge
Listed below are a series of scenarios to test and document what happens during play and various potential Math activities. I want to see what happens with my class, a small group of students, a pair of students and an individual student during each of the scenarios. During the filming, I will not interfere with what the students are doing or make any judgements on what is happening. It needs to be completely objective.
1. Film one group or person during unstructured play.
2. Film one group or person during a specific invitation to play.
3. Film one group or person playing a Math game.
4. Film one group or person playing a Math app.
5. Film a mini lesson related to a Math concept.
6. Film one group or person working on a Math worksheet.
7. Film one group or person working on a Math problem.
After filming each scenario, I will watch and take notes about what is happening. Then I will share this with a colleague and ask her what she sees. The goal is to see what happens during Math activities in comparison to play activities AND if, where, when and how engagement happens in each scenario.
