Charlie spent a couple of days last week writing a book based on the Uncharted game series. He drew pictures, and then told me exactly what to write, and how and where on the page to write it. He has lots to say; the story filled a whole booklet and it would have been a long and frustrating process for him to copy the words, so I'm happy to write it for him. This is the start of his writing journey, even though it might no look the way we expect it to when a child starts to write, I know that's what this is. He has something to say and he wants in said in writing - he has a motivation to write, and so one day he will! In the meantime he'll be busy formulating stories, organising thoughts and communicating his ideas to me. This page made me smile. He asked me to write 'behold your grim feet'! I suggested perhaps the phrase is grim fate, but he knew what he wanted! 😊 #learning #unschooling #writing #story

They found some new bathroom scales and were intrigued to find that although they could weigh themselves, many of their toys wouldn't register. I gave them the baking scales and we chatted about how one measured grams and the other kilos. Joseph was interested to see how much pressure he would need to apply to the baking scale to make a kilo, and found half a birthday candle weighed a gram, so he'd need around 27,000 of these to make his weight! He has been focussed here for such a long time, building a lego jeep. He has patiently seen off several attempts by his 20 month old sister to dismantle his work, clear the table and do whatever it takes to prevent me helping him! He is interested, he is motivated, and nothing is going to stop him! 😊
