Once marked they must go to a special school to learn which element they are affiliated with. Once they learn and master their skills a new and larger tattoo will appear around their crescent moon labeling them as an adult,. Â
The main character is 16-year-old Zoey Redbird that is marked and then has to go to the House of Night but she learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.
