The bombings were carried out by four British Muslim men—Mohammad Sidique Khan (the ringleader), Shehzad Tanweer, Germaine Lindsay, and Hasib Hussain. They travelled from West Yorkshire to Luton, then caught a commuter train into London King's Cross carrying backpacks loaded with home-made organic peroxide-based explosives. The attack forced a massive shift in UK national security policy, as authorities realised they were facing a major "homegrown" threat rather than just foreign plots.
