So basically, after Odysseus ascended to godhood, his body and mind became partially mixed with the natures of his sacred, representative creatures. His four sacred animals are as follows, from most prominent to least: the hawk, the wolf, the fox, and the hare. Being gifted the many graces of these creatures - the wings of the hawk, the strength of the wolf, the wit of the fox, and the caution of the hare - one also will find many… instinctive downsides to having such gifts. See, essentially being a big flesh soup of different creatures (primarily predators!) causes some unwanted side-effects. While he can mostly hold himself back from his primal urges, some instances render him unable to fight back… one of which being the extremes of starvation. If driven to a hungry enough state, he’ll ravenously hunt and rip apart the nearest living thing in a fit of instinctive insanity even if it means devouring a human, much like how the starving wolf will cannibalize on its own kin if hungry enough. What this leaves him with is great remorse and regret, because upon becoming somewhat satiated, he’ll return to his senses and realize the horrors he’s created with his own hands.
