γcontent: slight angst with comfort, jealous johnβ¦yeah :3
a/n: I LOVE THIS REQUEST UGH. my guilty pleasure is jealousy tropesβ¦π«ͺ
John was never one to get jealous.
well. thatβs partially true.
he was never one to admit his jealousy.
you would think that the John lennon of the beatles would have confidence that skyrocketed through the roof. it had to have come with the fame, wealth, and hot girls that threw themselves on him all the time, right?
in fact, the only thing that skyrocketed through the roof was his egoβwhich could be shattered just as easily as it is typically built back up. you never had much a problem with this. all one really needed was reassurance and kindness to keep anotherβs self esteem at a decent level.
however, tonight was something completely different.
The two of you (as well as the rest of the beatles) were attending the opening premiere for the βHard Days Nightβ promotional film; which felt as though it was the most important event of the century.
So much so that even John didnβt complain about wearing an outfit that was a little more βPoshβ, as heβd call it.
You on the other hand looked like a miracle. your dress, to fit the theme, was a dark, navy blue that went down to your ankles and accentuated your natural curves. Through the slit that went up from the bottom hem to your upper thigh, you could see opaque tights and a cute pair of white heals that confidently peaked through at just the right angle. To match, you wore white gloves and had your hair put up in a pretty bun, with pieces left out to frame your face.
John couldnβt help but admire you quietly. He would never say aloud just how lucky he was. Some part of him was worried that if you recognized the difference in worth between you two, youβd up and leave him. of course that wasnβt true, but how can you soothe thoughts that you know nothing about?
βAlright, donβt you think thatβs βnough perfume on ya?β He called out, impatiently waiting by the door with a teasing smirk and one hand tucked into his pocket.
You checked yourself for any imperfections in the mirror, once, then twice, then just one last time.
βJohn, are you sure iβm welcome here? i mean, i wouldnβt want to intrude on-β
βAh, quit your fussinβ birdy. youβre just as important as anyone else there...if not more.β he assured, confidently striding over to where you stood. large calloused palms rested on your hips as thumbs rubbed circles into the bone there. John rested his head on your shoulder and buried his nose into the crook of your neck and dramatically inhaled, making you giggle and fold in on yourself. you smacked him away.
βQuit it! iβm trying to gain some composure before going out there and meeting everyone!β You playfully scold. he rolls his eyes and gently nudges you towards the door.
βyou overdid it with the perfume. i think you just about gave me a bloody migraine.β
βoh, sod off you wanker.β you spout, stomping off towards the awaiting taxi.
spoiler alert, you had to keep the windows rolled down the entire ride there.
upon arrival of the premier, you and John caught many eyes. there was word of him being with a new woman, but not many expected him to truly show up to such an important event with one. despite there being quite a large amount of journalists and photographers, none of them seemed to care much for you. In fact, John was tugged away nine times out of ten to go be photographed or interviewed along with the other beatles.
you didnβt quite mind. the two of you said goodbye for the time being as you wandered off to find a snack table. John kept his eyes on you, only to make sure you wouldnβt get too far or pestered by any nosy journalists.
All night long you heard endless flashing shutters or questions that didnβt seem to make any sense. It seemed as though everyone lost their composure around those charming young men. you certainly did at first. however, when you look just a little bit closer, you see that they are really just boys trying to achieve whatever dream or goal they have for their band. it makes you smile to think that your boyfriend is the one who helped the Beatles into motion.
talk about bragging rights.
you snagged some cheese and crackers, as well as a glass of wine from the somehow isolated snack table. everyone else seemed to have their mouths full screaming at the very laid back guys who just wanted to party and drink.
you met johnβs eyes once or twice, to which he immediately looked away bashfully. how odd that such a man could get bashful.
βExcuse me.β A low voice pulls you from your thoughts.
you quickly avert your gaze from your boyfriend to the taller man standing in front of you with dark hair and emerald green eyes. he came off as composed, but you could tell by the way he wiped his sweaty palms on the sides of his pant leg that he was a little less put together than one would think.
βI came here to uhβ¦oh shootβ¦whatβs the darn wordβ¦β he seemed to get quieter the more he talked; which was certainly an inconvenience in a room full of excited shouting. you stepped closer and leaned in.
βTake your time.β you politely bring the conversation out of his thoughts and back into real life. his eyes meet yours and the next moment, his cheeks are blasted with color.
βSorry! God, i told them i wasnβt cut out for thisβ¦β he grumbles, earning an earnest laugh from you. that seemed to loosen his posture, if only a little. βIβm uhβ¦Tony. i came to recruit unique and beautiful women for a potential modeling job. you happen to uhβ¦fit that criteriaβ¦so i was wondering if youβd be interested in a-a business card?β he quickly extends his arm and between his fingers, surely enough, is a little card with a company name on it.
βChristβ¦well iβm quite flattered, truly. However, iβm not quite sure iβm cut out for modeling. too much work just to be something you arenβt.β you could go on and on about topics as such, but you wanted to be polite.
well, wanted is the keyword there.
little did you know, a 5β11 bloke from liverpool was menacingly approaching you from behind, face a deadpanned glare. You could tell the minute Tonyβs face dropped as he whispered a timid ββscuse meβ and quickly turned the other direction.
that was when you felt a familiar hand rest on your hip.
βdidnβt expect ya to go around pickingβ up nutters on your laps around the buildinβ.β John sneered from behind you. you could feel his fingers flex, which made you if only a little tense.
you turned to look at him, eyebrows knit in confusion.
βi wasnβt trying to pick up anyone. he was just a recruiter for some modeling business.β you assure, moving to rest a gentle palm against his chest.
βare you daft? the arse was clearly trynaβ pull one on ya!β he shouts. if it werenβt for all the other booming voices in this room, john probably wouldβve silenced the place.
βWhat? Christ, no. He was much too shy to even look me in the eye, let alone try to get me in bed!β
John looked at you as though you were outright flirting with the other man; eyes narrow and brows tied together in obvious irritation.
βIβm sure thatβs what you think. Quit playinβ stupid, would ya.β he uttered the last part to himself, as though it was meant to stay inside his mind.
you did not take that well.
instead of putting on a show and basically telling everyone about this dilemma, you gathered your composure and walked away.
not another word. not an eye roll. no dramatic sighs.
and Johnβ¦John was still mad.
knowing the singer, it would take a while for him to genuinely understand that what he said was wrong.
and thankfully enough, that time allowed more and more guilt to pool in where ego once stood.
He knew it was wrong. he knew that accusing you of things that may have not been true wasnβt something that a good man would do to his girl.
and he knew that most of all, he shouldnβt have called you stupid.
however, it would be a whole lot easier to apologize if you hadnβt locked him out of your hotel suite.
βuhβ¦(name)β¦the doors kind of locked.β
John muttered into the crack of the door, too embarrassed to let other visitors know about his quarrel.
βWell since youβre such a smart man, why donβt you figure out how to pick the bloody locks!?β
He flinched away from a voice he would describe as anything but pleasant and awkwardly stood beside the entryway.
how humiliating would it be if someone caught him like this?
βbaby, please let me in. itβs cold out here.β
βI apologize, kay? I was being cross and i know it. just please let me in.β
that was when he heard footsteps shuffle towards the door. still, it didnβt open.
he pressed his forehead against the wooden material, hand loosely gripping a door handle which he wished would move. Johnβs eyes fluttered shut. his voice lowered.
βi love you, (name). i justβ¦i didnβt want to lose you to some tall, awkward tosser.β
the man practically whimpered, trying to turn the handle once more. still wouldnβt budge.
with each quiet moment that passed, he could feel more and more emotions bubbling up in his throat.
βyouβre much too good for me. and while i should be gratefulβ¦im scared that one day youβll justβ¦oh i donβt know..β he cleared his throat. βhaveβ¦have enough of me.β
you opened the door slowly. before he could blink them away, you swore that there were tears pooling in johnβs eyes.
βdo you mean that?β you whispered, reaching up to hold his cheek in your hand.
he nodded. silently, and without hesitation. Johnβs eyes fluttered shut as your thumb caressed his skin.
βi do. and i also truly do mean it when i say im sorry. i shouldnβt have let my feelings get the best of me.β he murmured, soft eyes opening to meet yours.
βJohn. i donβt mind that you have big feelings. just talk to me about them.β you pause, moving to brush some shaggy hair out of his forehead. he shuddered.
βso you forgive me?β he stammered.
βwellβ¦i donβt like that you called me stupid.β you immediately snatched your hand away.
βI apologized for that!β he shouted defensively.
you laughed, which brought some part of him ease.
and while johnβs confidence may have still been a little weak, he could confide in you to not leave. after all, he wasnβt sure heβd be able to let you go.
