#tbt Part 2: The "Spirit of Lawrence Tech," nicknamed “Chappy” in honor of Randy Chapman, an alum and faculty member who died in 1945, was sold in the 1950s. In 1984, “Chappy” was returned to LTU in hundreds of pieces and dozens of plastics bags. It took a team of 25 volunteers five years to restore the plane. “Chappy” was hung in the Buell atrium in 1989.
