Scene Three;
Gabriel: A very groggy and disoriented Gabriel grunted as he turned over on the sofa, falling right onto the floor. He sat up quickly and looked around, not recognizing where he was at all. He got to his feet and crept his way into the kitchen, finding it empty except for a fly buzzing by him. "Hello?" he called warily, wondering how he had gotten here in the first place.
Sam: While Gabriel had been passed out on Sam's couch, Sam had taken a shower and changed into a clean set of clothes. He'd also bandaged both of his hands and tended to a cut on his bottom lip. After having checked on Gabriel, Sam left for the office to grab his things.--------------Sam made the trip to the office as quick as possible, hoping to arrive back to the apartment before Gabriel woke. Such was not the case. "Gabriel...?" Sam called, setting down his backpack as he noticed the man wasn't on the couch still.
Gabriel: Gabriel jumped at the sound of his name, his ears hearing the voice of not Sam but Deidriel, his former lover. Had he hit his head that badly that he was hearing things now? He went towards the voice and caught a stuttering breath when he saw his love standing where it was actually Sam. "Drel?" he sighed out, walking slowly towards him. "You... you're alive?"
Sam: "Gabriel....are you..okay...?" Sam looked at the man, head cocked in confusion. He had no idea who this Del person was or why Gabriel was even surprised he was alive.
Gabriel: Gabriel swallowed and blinked a few times, still seeing his murdered lover in front of him after trying to focus. "Del! You have no idea how much I've missed you! How are you even--" he ran into Sam, gripping him around the waist to hold him tight, his eyes watering as if he were a sobbing child.
Sam: Sam awkwardly patted Gabriel on the back, not sure what else to do. "...Hey, it's okay. It'll be okay..."
Gabriel: Gabriel felt himself hiccup, still crying into Sam's shirt as he felt the taller man pat his back. "I l-love you so much. Don't l-leave me again. Please..." he half begged though in the back of his mind, he knew Deidriel was long gone and he was never coming back. God wouldn't allow it.
Sam: Sam had gone form awkwardly patting Gabriel's back to awkwardly hugging the crying man. "Umm...Gabriel..I'm not Del.." Whatever was going on Sam couldn't allow this to continue, to let Gabriel keep thinking he was someone he wasn't. It wouldn't be fair to him.
Gabriel: Gabriel froze, hearing a different voice from his lover's. "W-what..." he backed away slightly to look up at Sam with watery eyes. "I... oh God... I'm so sorry..." he stumbled backwards and fell flat on his butt.
Sam: "Hey, whoa! Easy there." Sam made to help Gabriel up, ignoring the slight throb from his wrapped hands as he did so. "Are you okay?"
Gabriel: "I'm... I'm fine... I'm sorry... I didn't see you... It was someone else... I'm so sorry, Sam." he looked down, catching a glimpse of Sam's injured hand as he did. "You're hurt."
Sam: "It's okay. Really." Same gave a reassuring smile, careful of his split lip. He then glances down a this hands. "Oh, these? I've had worse.."
Gabriel: "From... from what?" he asked, his memory coming back to him as he realized he was in the company of a hunter. "You've hunted your whole life?"
Sam: "From a Wendigo. Got me real good too." Sam answered. "I was raised a hunter so didn't have much choice in the matter." Walking into the kitchen, he reached into one of the cupboards, grabbed a glass and filled it with water from the sink.
Gabriel: Gabriel trailed after Sam, bringing his hand up to wipe stray tears from his cheeks before taking a deep breath. "W-what else have you hunted?" he asked Sam carefully.
Sam: Sam offered the glass of water to Gabriel. "I mostly did the research but I have hunted spirits, demons, werewolves, witches, wendigos and now vampires."
Gabriel: Gabriel took the water and sipped from it slowly as he nodded. Not a mention of angels in there anywhere. "So... nothing divine?" he asked with caution, backing up a little.
Sam: "Mmm, nope. Not that I can recall anyway." Sam snagged himself a glass of water, lent back against the counter, and took a sip. "How did you know those guys were vamps? You seemed to know without seeing their teeth."
Gabriel: "I... I sensed it." he looked down, hoping he wouldn't get into a fight or flight situation with the pup. "It's kinda my thing to know what's near, to help people. Deliver messages to people."
Sam: Sam nodded once. There went Sam's idea of Gabriel being like him. Instead he had to be something of the supernatural variety. But what, was the question. "So, what are you?"
Gabriel: "I uhm... I'm an... an angel." he swallowed yet another boulder, his stomach sinking to his toes as he studied Sam for his reaction. Would he have to run or would Sam be okay with this? He'd find out soon enough.
Sam: "An angel?" This guy had to be off his rocker for sure. "That can't be right. You sure you didn't hit your head when you passed out?" Sure Sam believed angel existed but they sure as Hell didn't dress up and play human. Otherwise they would have been there when he and his brother were growing up.
Gabriel: "I'm the real thing. An angel of the lord. God's messenger." he sighed, knowing full well he'd have to provide proof if he wanted the hunter to believe him at all. "Do you want to... see my wings?"
Sam: "Sure. Why not." Sam sat his glass on the counter and crossed his arms, watching Gabriel intently. This should be fun. He wondered what kind of ticks the man used to show off his wings.
Gabriel: Gabriel sighed, noting the disbelief in Sam's voice as he hunched over just a bit and let six huge fluffy wings spread from his back, his body trembled a bit though due to his wings being stuffed away for so long.
Sam: "That's a neat trick. How'd you do it?" Sam had to give the guy credit. The wings looked real and they were huge. There were no wires to be found either.
Gabriel: "It's not a trick. They're real." he sighed, his wings fluffing in defense of him pretty much being called a liar. He looked back at his wings, noting how disheveled they appeared due to the lack of grooming. He should really talk to Micheal about helping him with that.
Sam: "Ummm yea, okay. Whatever helps you sleep at night." Sam snorted, his arms falling to his sides as he walks back out to the living room to tidy up before Jessica came home.
Gabriel: Gabriel pouted a little before moving towards the hunter and grabbing his hand, teleporting them both into their office, his wings no longer visible. "It would do you good to not believe me to be a liar, Sam."
Sam: "What the?!??!" Sam stumbled a bit, his equilibrium off. "What was that?!?! Sam nearly squawked, glaring disbelievingly at the angel.
Gabriel: Gabriel's eyes darted to the door, sighing in drastic relief when he realized the office door was closed and they had their privacy. "Sam, I told you... I'm an angel of the lord. Why would I lie about that. You saw what I did in the diner, you saw my wings. Do you still not trust my word even with the proof I've provided?"
Sam: Sam didn't say anything, even looked away from Gabriel. It wasn't that he didn't believe him. It was more like he didn't want to believe him. If he didn't believe Gabriel than just maybe he could pretend God and the angels were too busy with things up in Heaven to help Sam and his family when he was growing up.
Gabriel: "Sam?" Gabriel spoke with caution, seeing the pup's heart breaking by just looking at him. "Sam... should I... should I go?" he asked, moving towards the door.
Sam: "No. You're fine." Sam squeezed his eyes shut and pulled himself together. He had to work with the guy so needing to get along with him to some degree was kind of inevitable.
Gabriel: "I..." he began but just sighed and nodded, opting to sit down in his chair instead of walking out the door. "I'm sorry you had to find out like this."
Sam: Sam heaved a sigh and flopped down into his own chair. "I've actually found out things in a whole lot worse ways than this." he shrugged, picking at a loose thread on his pants leg
Gabriel: "I'm still sorry..." he sighed again, standing up and going to Sam, kneeling in front of him to smile at him kindly. "Sam... You know what I am now. If you need anything, you can ask. Anything at all, okay?"
Sam: Sam nodded. "How...how long have you been on earth for?" he was somewhat afraid to hear the answer but his curiosity got the best of him. He just had to know.
Gabriel: "Well... I've been here since the beginning. Since fath-- since God made the first fish." he tilted his head and rubbed a hand up and down Sam's arm in an attempt to comfort him. He knew this wasn't easy for him to hear.
Sam: "Can...can God actually hear when people pray to him?" Sam had prayed countless times growing up. Each time it seemed as if God wasn't listening.
Gabriel: "God hears everything and he answers in odd ways. He makes you stronger in ways to help you handle your struggles and move past them." he nodded, knowing full well this is how an angel was supposed to answer even if he didn't agree with it fully.
Sam: Sam snaps his mouth shut and tightens his jaw, leg bouncing in agitation. Just great. God had ignored him in his family's times of need.
Gabriel: "W-what's wrong?" he asked, feeling a bit flustered at Sam's reaction. "Did I say something wrong?" he sat back on the heel of his feet, staring up at Sam with a worried expression, not knowing what he had done.
Sam: Sam looked down at Gabriel, hazel eyes swirling with mixed emotions. "Can we go somewhere private to talk? Somewhere that isn't my apartment....my girlfriend will be home soon."
Gabriel: Gabriel nodded, taking both of Sam's hands into his own and teleported the two of them to his own home, his dog there to greet them with a tilted head before jumping at Sam happily. "Reeses, down. Be good. Sam is our guest. Lay down." he pointed to the doggy bed before looking up at the taller man. "Come to the living area. We can relax more in there. I can get us a drink too if you'd like."
Sam: "Water is fine. Thanks." Sam walked into the living room, taking in everything about the home on his route to the couch. Shortly after he plopped onto the couch Reeses hops up, curling up beside Sam and resting his chin on his leg. Sam happily scratches behind the dog's ears.
Gabriel: Gabriel snapped his fingers, two glasses of water appearing in the table in front of them. "Anything to eat?" he asked softly, wondering if he was going to get the whole fifty questions from the hunter about heaven and hell and angels and demons. He wasn't sure he would be able to stand being used as an encyclopedia.
Sam: "Nah. I'm good, Thank you though." Sam would eat after he got home. He was certain Jessica would have something made for dinner by the time he returned. "...Why would God allow a father to leave his kids to fend for themselves more often than not..?" he voiced unexpectedly, continuing to pet Reeses.
Gabriel: Gabriel took a sip of his water and sighed, shaking his head. "To tell you the honest truth, God has been more or less absent for a long time. War sort of broke out upstairs and he just... left. But if it were me answering your prayers, I wouldn't have let that happen. I would have made him stay, pup. You deserved so much better."
Sam: "...When I was 9 I told my dad I was scared of the thing in my closet. Wanna know what he did?" Sam stated, pausing a short beat before talking again. "He gave me a .45."
Gabriel: "Maybe that's the only way he knew how to protect you. Some men... they aren't cut out to be fathers. They get... distracted and go back to a primitive instinct on how to protect, not nurture. But I'm still so sorry, Sam. Even if that is the case, you didn't need to live like that. Not at such a young age." Gabriel scooted himself closer to the pup, rubbing his hand up and down Sam's spine for comfort. If there was one thing he was good at, it was comforting people in times of a crisis. He prided himself on it.
Sam: "You're an angel, can't you make it so I can't remember that I even have a dad?" Sam questioned. He didn't want any harm to be done to his father, just to forget he had one.
Gabriel: "I... I could. But it'll be as if you never knew him. Like you grew up with just your brother." he explained, raising a brow. He wasn't sure Sam knew what he was trying to get himself into.
Sam: "I pretty much did. My brother basically raised me since our father was always on a hunt." Sam was determined to have as normal of a life as possible. He was also tired of always feeling anger and resentment towards the older Winchester.
Gabriel: "I... are you sure this is what you want, Sam?" he asked, his hand stopping at the small of the hunter's back, his other hand raising to his temple where he pressed two fingers gently. "I can reverse it at anytime but you wont even know to ask me to reverse it."
Sam: "Yea...I am." Sam nodded, hopeful the angel would actually erase his memory of his father. Heck, as far as Sam knew he'd never see John Winchester again, so it wouldn't really matter if he didn't remember the man.
Gabriel: "Alright..." he nodded, a flash filling the room as the memories of ever being in contact with his father was erased from his memory. He felt as if this was going to come back and bite him on the ass later though.
Sam: "So uh, nice place you got." Sam said soon as the flash of light vanished, no trace of his father in his memory. His mood had lifted tremendously. All the anger and resentment he'd harbored, gone.
Gabriel: "Thanks, pup. Want a tour?" he asked, putting off a smile for the young hunter. He stood up and headed for the stairs, wanting to show off the dog's bedroom first.
Sam: "Sure!" Sam eagerly followed after Gabriel, Reeses jumping off the couch to trail after them. It was his room dammit. He should be the one to show it off, not his angel.
Gabriel: Gabriel chuckled when he heard Reeses pattering after them. "I think he wants to show you his room. It's a very nice room." he smiles and opens the door to the dog's room, revealing a sort of dog wonderland.
Sam: "Oh wow! This is a really cool room." Sam coos at Reeses, crouching down to pet the dog. "You are one lucky dog."
Gabriel: "Oh he knows. He's very proud of it." Gabriel chuckles and shakes his head when Reeses rolls over and exposes his belly to Sam, wanting his tummy rubbed. "He's so demanding with his pets."
Sam: "Is that right?" He continues to coo at the wiggly pup, giving him belly rubs. "Well you can get all the belly rubs and pets you want from me."
Gabriel: "Better watch out, he's gonna hold you to that even while you're eating." Gabriel warned, leaning against the wall as he happily watch the hunter tickle the dog's belly. "Speaking of, would you like something to eat. Not meaning to brag but I'm quite the cook."
Sam: "I'll make sure to remember that." Sam chuckled, slowly standing back up. "Umm, sure. I just need to let my girlfriend know so she doesn't worry about me." He knew Jessica would worry if he didn't at least let her know he wouldn't be home anytime soon.
Gabriel: "Not a problem. You okay with shrimp salads and tortilla chips with salsa? I make the salsa from scratch." he smiled, walking towards the door so he could head down to the kitchen. He was going to make a meal even angelic powers couldn't erase from Sam's memory.
Sam: "That will be fine." Sam smiled, pulling his phone from his pocket and dialing Jessica's number. "Hey Jess, I'm going to be home a bit later. Yea, okay. I'll see you when I get home. Love you too." After hanging up, Sam shoved his phone back into his pocket and went in search of Gabriel.
Gabriel: Gabriel had began frying the shrimp already, the salads pretty much done. He had all the ingredients out for the salsa but he was busy feeding his dog some of the corn chips and chuckling as he licked the salt from them instead of just eating them.
Sam: Sam smirked at the sight of Reeses licking at the chips upon entering the kitchen. He had always wanted a dog of his own. Closest he got to that was his Uncle Bobby's dog, Rumsfeld. "What smells so good?" He asked, making himself known.
Gabriel: "That would be the shrimp." Gabriel smirked, getting to his feet and pointing to the sizzling fish on the stove top. "I'm making the salsa over here if you'd like to help." he walked to the counter that had what he needed for the salsa and began chopping at a pepper, tossing it in a blender once the chunks were a decent size.
Sam: "I'm not the best cook but I could help with something easy if you want." Sam offered, walking over to the stove and taking a bigger whiff of the frying shrimp. "Anything specific you want me to do?"
Gabriel: "Would you care to dice up some tomatoes?" he asked, chopping another pepper up for the blender as Reeses was curling around his feet, making him immobile.
Sam: "Sure." Sam grabbed a tomato, knife and cutting board that were already on the counter and began cutting up the red produce. He was mindful of his bandaged hands. "So is Micheal an angel too?"
Gabriel: Gabriel picked up a piece of tomato and popped it in his mouth before choking a bit on it, grabbing his throat and stumbling back when he heard Sam's question. Shit... Had he just exposed his entire family as deities?
Sam: "Oh my God!" Sam rushed over to Gabriel's aid as soon as he heard the angel choking. "Are you okay?" Who would of thought angels could choke. Then again, he was using a human vessel.
Gabriel: The piece of tomato fell out of his mouth and he gasped for air as he heard Reeses whimpering, likely worried about what was happening. He rubbed his chest with one hand and reached out to grab Sam's arm to steady himself. "W-water..."
Sam: Sam nodded and immediately dashed to find a glass and filled it with water. He then went back to Gabriel's side and held it out to the man. "Here you go."
Gabriel: Gabriel grabbed the glass of water and chugged it, gasping after the glass was empty. "Oh god. Thank you." he said in relief as he put the glass down on the counter. "That has never in my thousands of years in this universe happened to me." he coughed again and shook his head. "W-what were you saying before I almost killed myself with a tomato?"
Sam: "Well you are using a human as your vessel..." Sam pointed out, snorting. He wasn't sure now if he should mention his question. Not after how Gabriel had choked on a piece of tomato. "It was nothing..."
Gabriel: "Are you sure?" he asked, taking the glass in hand and filling it up with water from the sink before taking a long drink from it and letting out a loud belch.
Sam: "Yea, I'm sure." Soon as he knew Gabriel was going to be okay Sam went back to his task of cutting up tomatoes.
Gabriel: Gabriel sighed and sat the empty glass in the sink before going back to his own task. He hadn't forgotten the question, he just didn't know if he should answer it. "So, tell me what it was like growing up as a big bad hunter."
Sam: "Well, after my mom died my father dropped me and my brother off at our Uncle Bobby's. Haven't seen or heard from him since. Our uncle was into the hunting lifestyle and trained us but he never made it the sole focus of our lives. He made sure we were able to be kids growing up. My brother took to hunting easily. Myself, I preferred a life outside of hunting." Sam explained easily enough. Proof that Gabriel's powers had for sure worked.
Gabriel: Gabriel nodded, taking in the lie that Sam's mind created due to his memory being erased and he couldn't help but feel a bit sad for the hunter. "I think it's good that you were able to be a kid though."
Sam: "Yea, my uncle just wanted us to be able to protect ourselves if we ever needed it." Sam cut up the last of the tomatoes and set the knife down. "What about you....what's it like being an angel?"
Gabriel: "It's actually kind of tiring. A lot of arguments. War is breaking out upstairs and not a lot of angels are wiling to stick around to see the outcome." he popped the tomatoes that Sam finished cutting into the blender, added some chili powder and some spicy sriracha sauce before beginning to blend it.
Sam: "War? What happened to cause a war in Heaven?" Sam was honestly curious. He'd read the bible numerous times and knew of things that happened way back when. But what would cause a war of any sort up above these days, Sam had no clue.
Gabriel: "Well, God left and that put us at a decision of who was to be in charge. A lot of people want Mi-- my older brother to be in charge but there's a lot who don't as well." he stopped the blender and poured the salsa into a bowl before moving to the shrimp, moving them around the pan a bit.
Sam: Sam nodded in understanding as he watched Gabriel move around the kitchen. "I am assuming war is how you guys decide things...?"
Gabriel: "Usually anymore. It used to be simple. We'd obey father. But now..." he shakes his head and sighs once more, turning the shrimp over in the pan. "The angels act like there's no other way but war."
Sam: "I'm sorry. That has to be hard. No wonder you are down here on earth." Sam, for reasons he couldn't understand, sympathized with the older man.
Gabriel: "Yeah. Got my orders and took off as fast as I could. Angels have jobs to do even if they've been abandoned by God." he puts the fork down on the counter and grabbed the pepper, sprinkling some on the fish.
Sam: "...What kind of orders did you get?" For all Sam knew Gabriel could have been ordered to kill someone. Sam moved the knife and cutting board he'd used to the sink, needing something to do.
Gabriel: "I uh... I can't really tell anyone at this point." he told Sam, moving the shrimp around in the pan a bit more before dumping it on top of two bowls of salad he had prepared already. "Caesar dressing or ranch?"
Sam: "Caesar please." Sam grabbed the bowl of salsa along with some silverware and started setting the table. "Do you like being on Earth?"
Gabriel: "I like it better than going back up to the civil war in heaven. It's like a breath of fresh air being here." he sighed, pulling open the fridge door and grabbing his bottle of home made salad dressing before placing it along side the salsa then going for the salads and placing them on the table as well.
Sam: "Sounds like it." Sam didn't bother mentioning that wars pretty much happened wherever you went these days. He instead refilled their glasses with ice and water, meeting Gabriel back at the table.
Gabriel: Gabriel nodded and pulled a chair out for Sam, awaiting the hunter to seat himself before sitting down himself, starting off with a sip of water. "I do hope you like the food. Clearly I spent all day slaving over it." he teased, chuckling.
Sam: "It looks and smells wonderful actually." Sam smiled as he sat in the chair and scooted himself closer to the table. "I bet it tastes as good as it looks too."
Gabriel: "It better. It's a secret blend I use on my shrimp." he smirks, picking up his fork and poking it into the crunchy lettice and shrimp of his salad, bringing it to his mouth and humming in delight.
Sam: Sam took a nice big forkful of the salad, making sure to get a shrimp in the mix. He all but moaned in delight at the burst of flavor on his taste buds. "You out did yourself. This is really good."
