Permanent Hiatus

Remus was saying one thing, but Romulus knew better. Whether they called it dating or not, there had to be something going on between the Gryffindor and the Slytherin. “Well, fine…” he said with a shrug as he slid off the arm of the chair. “He’s rather cute, now that I think about it… and if you’re not after him, I might just.”

It was pointless to try to hide anything from Rom, especially when his brother was involved. He would not admit it out loud, but the twin had always been protective of Remus ever since that fateful night. It was why he had become an animagus at such a young age, after all.

“Please don’t…” He begged quietly, hanging his head and sighing. “I don’t know why but I just- I like him, okay? A- a lot. And he likes me too, I think- which you know how much it means to me, specially since neither mum or dad would let me go out anywhere in fear that someone would find out what I was!” 

Romulus stared at his brother in disbelief; had he actually been seeing Snape? And here he was messing around, trying to get a rise out of Remus. Well, it seemed as though it had worked. 

He gasped and nudged Remus again, a malicious grin now on his face. “Tell me you’re not dating Snape, and only weeks after he and Lily stopped being friends.” What would their father think? How would Hope feel about that? “Why him?”

“It’s not- we’re not dating, Romulus.” He sighed, pushing away at his brother. He should have just ignored him, Rom already should know he didn’t like to be bugged when he was reading eitherway, but now he just wasn’t stopping. 

“Oh, come on,” Romulus teased. “You don’t want to have a little bit of fun?” Always the trouble maker, Remus’ twin was always trying to find a way to tie his brother down in his antics. Oftentimes, Romulus picked at Remus on the fact that it should have been him to make friends with James and Sirius first.

He brought a hand to his chest in false offense as they began to walk down the sidewalk. “Now, you know,” he said pointedly, “I’m not entirely troublesome. I have done some good things in my life, contrary to popular belief.”

“I don’t want to spend our parents’ money on your useless fun. You will only get the both of us in trouble and I am not ruining my good streak because of you.” He scolded, arms crossed over his chest. Where was James when you- no he’d take that back, James would also be encouraging him to loosen the leash and have ‘fun’.

“You’re right, I learned my lesson,” sang Romulus, feigning innocence. In fact, with the intensity that Hope had scolded him that summer, he rather wished she had sent a Howler. 

Romulus stood and moved to sit on the arm of the sofa where his twin sat. “Oh, no? Nice, lovely woman like her, not your type? Well, then who is?” He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned into Remus, nudging the other a few times with his elbow. “Hm, I have seen you hanging around a little too much with your Potions tutor–” he gasped. “Has Remus caught a fancy for Snivellus?”

“Did you really?” Sometimes it was really his own twin brother that reminded him of the worst of Sirius’ and James’ traits.
