⦠CANDICE KING, HER, SHE/HER ⦠LAURIE HARINGER the THIRTY year old has been in Hidehill for ONE WEEK and was a AQUAINTANCE to Miyeon Kang, the murder victim. Whispers on the streets are that the CRIMINAL PROFILER who lives in HADFIELD are said to be INTUITIVE and REMOVED but I guess weāll find out for ourselves.Ā
Laurie wasnāt what theyād expected with her hard gaze and stoic nature when she arrived into Hidehill. Maybe Laurie had never learned what friendship really was, or allowing people close enough to care. But there was one thing she was certain on when she arrived --- a place like this, everyone knew everyone and cracking them wouldnāt be easy.Ā
THE BEGINING.
Laurie had lived a pretty normal life up until the day her mother left. Thinking back now sheād been so young she wasnāt sure how much she remembered except from the mental images sheād conjoured up herself to fill the ache of where sheād once been. Her father, Michael, hadnāt taken it all that well. For a man whoād been ever the doting husband saw his life shattered. No one around them could understand, let alone him. Their picture perfect family was over and he did very little to keep up any kind of facade.Ā
Michael had never allowed Laurie to see her family, often going on tangents about the difference between good and evil. It was only as she got older that she came to know why. They were crooks, mobsters, murderers --- the list went on. Laurie was appalled. Especially when she learnt of the years of torture her father had been subjected to under theirĀ ācareā.Ā
Laurie learnt pretty early on how to look after herself. While her father did the best that he could, the loss of her mother had meant that he never really checked back in. Laurie she was intelligent. In fact, she was painted as a child prodigody with exceptional grades. She excelled in science, math and sport and knew early on that she wanted to work in the justice divison of some kind. It would only come later in life that being a Criminal Profiler was the perfect job for her.Ā Laurie had always been a goal-orientated, assertive and some-what cold.Ā
Getting into Stanford was Laurieās biggest achievement to date. Studying Psychology and Criminal Justice had always been the plan and now she was heading in the right direction. Michael had been ecstatic and in those couple of years Laurie had seen a huge change when he met Stephanie. She was a mother of two and loved him so dearly. Itād been great for Laurie to see her father mending while she acomplished her dreams. To see him smile again was the best thing she could have ever dreamed of. Laurie was bright, quick-witted and feisty and it was that combination mixed her drive that had got her this far.Ā
Top of her class seemed to be a permenant fixture for her, and gained her first internship at the Stanford Criminal Justice Centre thanks to her professors.Ā This meant that Laurie was getting the best, top quality and in-person experience she could. When it came to Criminal Justice she excelled and was quick to build her own reputation and connections.Ā
Following that Laurie gained a PHD in Psychology and attended Quantico to prepare herself for the field. She was right where she needed to be and then she met Anthony. At first he was her best friend, then her fiance and finally husband.Ā But that marriage was set to fail.Ā
When work began to come before their new marriage it was quick to fall apart. Anthony thought that Laurie was too cold and she thought he was too frivilous. Theyād disagreed on all the small things while managing to advert themselves around the big ones until it emploded. Within one year it was all over and she was left heart broken.Ā
The loss of someone while wholly different from her parents experience had seen Laurie feel that loss deeply, sheād withdrawn from people more and focused souly on work. Her job life was thriving, she was now on a team with other profilers working on cases together trying to solve what they could.
THE NOW.
But now she was being sent to Hidehill, Nashville with her partner. Theyāre to play an undercover role while working their case. They were trusted to come and aid in a missing persons case that was going on and to use their expert skills to track down who could have done any of this. While work was her life she also needed to learn to live again.Ā

Beau shrugged. Truthfully, he saw nothing strange about striking up conversation. Small talk could be like pulling teeth, but being polite was just how he was raised, and down here that meant conversing. At least she wasn't trying to talk about the weather. As for the mention of it being personal? "Everything's personal in this town. Most of us have been here so long, it's all middle school grudges and no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfathers." Ok, so that's just from Holes, but whatever.
"Trust me, though. Didn't need to tell me you're new. Spotted that a mile away." Even if he doesn't know everyone in town personally, you get used to seeing faces. New ones stick out. All things considered, he doesn't feel too easy about new faces. "It's not a bad place, though, when there's not some homicidal maniac runnin' around. You've just got great timing."
Laurie hummed when he confirmed her suspicions, in her paperwork she'd argued her case with the BAU that in a town so small it'd be a sensitive topic because everyone knew everyone. If they wanted to cover something up they'd be likely to work together or if this was an outside source then it wouldn't be too hard to whittle it down. Part of the agreement was that they were both undercover, to pretend to be married in order to not give away their work but also to integrate into the community and get more information.
''Am I really that obvious or is it because you don't see new faces all that much?'' Laurie asked while masking it as best as she could to appear as a newcomer interested in the town she'd call 'home' when in reality she needed to know if she was blending in. She couldn't wait until he arrived and she wasn't doing this all alone.
''Yeah, the homicidal maniac has put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth'' Turning to Beau she assessed the male, tilting her head to the side. ''You have any idea who could be doing this?''
Beau had lived in Hidehill all his life. He was used to the usual small town drama, moms taking it too personally when their kids didnāt win student council elections, guys who peaked in high school trying to throw their weight around like they hadnāt graduated twenty years earlier, the never ending drama of who was sleeping with who or had dated who in the last four years, that sort of thing. But all of this? If he didnāt have Wyatt, and a business, to think of, he would be long gone. Hometown memories be damned, this place was going insane.
āāNo need to worry about your language around me --- Iāve heard it all.āā
Laurie barked out a laugh edged with amuesment, she hadnāt expected someone to strike up a conversation so easily especially over that statement. Moving was a lonley endevour when made with someone else but she was still waiting for her partner to arrive, the fake wedding ring sitting on her finger. It felt too heavy and wrong but it was part of their ploy. The murders were not just being investigated in town anymore, itād reached state lines and spilled over until itād landed upon Laurieās desk.Ā
āāIt is fucked. For somewhere so small...everyone knows each other...I donāt know? Feels kindaā personal, donāt you think?āā --- It was the narrative sheād been running with since sheād read over those stomach turning files about whatād been happening here.Ā āāI literally moved here a week ago and Iām rethinking this move, honestly.āāĀ
Where: Outside a street vendor in front of a paper stand.
Being here in this place in the face of such atrocities would have had most squirming. But not Laurie. Sheād became accustom to this kind of tragedy after the years sheād put in the field. Each murder or missing person here was connected and for some time now her team had been brain storming. Was this a sieral killer? A group? It was part of her work and responsibility to get to the bottom of it. There were answers lurking in this town and itād take someone talented to snuff it out. Laurie had been tasked with doing exactly that.Ā
āā --- I canāt believe this.āā She feigned innocence, in reality she could believe it. Some sick bastard was roaming these streets getting a thrill. What she needed to figure out was what the trigger was, how they get to this point, once she had that itād narrow the search. The quicker she did the faster she could go home.Ā āāItās sick and twisted.āāĀ
