Her breath catches as he turns. Бог, how long had it been? The immediate joy she has at seeing him is quickly replaced with guilt. This was not at all how she had imagined their reunion would unfold. Can you blame him? You rarely act selflessly. However, this in itself was another selfish act. A desperate grab at indulgence once again, a chance for forgiveness when she deserved none.
“I…I couldn’t believe what they said. They were always looking for reasons to single you out, from the start. You’d done awful things before, but…” she hesitates, fidgeting with her fingers. Under his gaze, she finds herself excruciatingly visible. She knows nothing will go unnoticed with him. “I thought if i came to see you, maybe you would….open up. Tell the truth or something.” The more she speaks the more ludicrous the idea sounds. Sighing, she shoves her hands in her pockets to halt the nervous tic. “We trusted each other once, Loki.”
He leans in, his eyes narrowing as he observes her. Would it not burn him, he would have placed his hands against the barrier. Anything just to get that bit loser. There’s something desperate about the action, something entreating, though he knows better than to hope that she could help him. Knows perfectly well what his fate will be. This time, there will be no escape.
“I HAVE been telling the truth. What has it gotten me? This is what comes of being branded a liar, I suppose.” He laughs, and the sound is devoid of any mirth. “They will fall for your bait every time, but the one time it matters, no one will listen. I suppose I have been playing my part too well.”
