( alberto rosende. cismale. he&him. believer & imagine dragons. ) supposedly santiago maquez sariego is actually a hybrid (werewolf/vampire), but i doubt it. they look like they’re twenty-eight, though they act like they’ve been on earth for eighty-two years. i recently saw them at brookyln— i think they’re a(n) firefighter there. when dusk falls, you can usually find them heading home to staten island by motorcycle.

Despite having a Cuban dad and a Columbian mother, one a dhampir and the other a werewolf, he grew up in the USA, he was born and raised in Boston.
He wasn’t raised by his biological dad, because Santiago was a result of an affair, and even though his mom loved the man, she was still married to his step dad, who the hybrid thought was his actual dad, as his mom lied to him and to her husband.
Every time the boy asked why he was different, she came up with an excuse. She managed to hide from her husband that the boy had different powers, and that he needed blood, that he didn’t lose control while it was a full moon, said it was because his gene wasn’t triggered yet, which was a half true, but not why it didn’t happen. It wasn’t easy, the boy had to lie to him, she convinced him it was for the best, that his papa couldn’t know any of it. He also had to eat food, and drink to keep the facade.
Speaking of his step dad, the man wasn’t really a good one, he emotionally abused him and his mom, so his childhood wasn’t really the best.
He knew that his mom wanted to escape that toxic relationship, but as usual, abusers tend to make the victim feel like they needed them or be scared of what would happen if they left, so she stayed, despise her lover always saying that she didn’t need her husband, that she had him, but she was always terrified he would do something to her or her baby if she tried to end things.
Santiago didn’t have a choice, because as a minor, he couldn’t exactly just move away, and he also didn’t want to leave his mom behind, he didn’t want her to deal with it alone, so he also stayed.
His family wasn’t exactly part of a pack, at least not a big one, their pack was, his step father, who was the alpha, and his mom and him, who were the betas.
For a long time his werewolf gene wasn’t triggered, because he refused to kill someone, but that would change soon. His step dad hated that his kid was as useless as a human in his eyes, so he forced him to do it. He told him that if he didn’t do it, he would regret it, that he would hurt every single person that he loved, so the 16 year old boy felt like he had no other choice. He made sure that the person’s death would be as painless as possible, but that didn’t take away his guilt. His powers increased because now he was a “full hybrid,” but at what cost?
Time passed by, and he spent pretty much his whole life dealing with the abuse, until he left for college.
The plan was to move away to a different city, but the thought of leaving his mom behind, was too painful, so he continued in Boston.
He didn’t stop visiting her, but only doing it when his step dad wasn’t around. He wanted to do something to help his mom, but he knew that calling the police would be pointless, and he also couldn’t fight with him, because despise the fact that now he was a little stronger, he still didn’t think he could win.
Family aside, his personal life wasn’t bad, he managed to have good grades despite the stress of living in a toxic home, but it did affect his love life, and he ended up not wanting to date any girls in high school, he honestly couldn’t even sleep with anyone, the abuse affected him a lot, he was just able to do it after he left home, and went to college, but not right away. It was one of the reasons why he lost his virginity only when he was 21. However, he still wasn’t able to date anyone, so he mostly focused on studying.
He finished college, and got the degree that he needed to be what he really wanted to be, which was a firefighter. While he was still in college, he was a volunteer at the fire station, which made easier to become a firefighter.
His life wasn’t that bad anymore, but there was still something that he wanted to fix, his mom’s situation, he just didn’t know how.
Unfortunately, soon would be too late. His step dad found out about the affair, which his mom didn’t end, continued to see the other man. Her husband found out, and decided to end things once and for all, he killed the lover, and confronted his wife about it, told her what he did. It was what pushed her through the edge and made her decide that she would leave him, it was the last straw for her.
Sadly, it wouldn’t be that easy, he refused to let her go, told her that she wouldn’t go anywhere, when she tried to go to their room to start to pack things, he held on to her arm, a little too strong. Tiago walked in exactly at that moment, and told him to let her go, but he didn’t listen, so the younger man pushed him away. It was what started their fight.
When the alpha saw the opportunity, because he managed to push his supposed son strong enough to leave him a few seconds on the floor, he rushed to the woman, and right there and then, he killed her. He had to watch his mother be murdered right before his eyes, which was what triggered his anger and his motivation to shove his hand through the man’s back and rip off his heart.
He created a whole scenario in the house, to make it seem like his step dad had killed himself after he killed his mother. He knew that if humans found out he did it, he wouldn’t be able to explain.
Tragedies aside, when he completed 23, he met someone, a person that would both change his life forever and his heart. She was the first woman that he fell for, who later, he would get married
Took him a while to open up to her, to tell her what he went through as a child, what he did to the man that he still thought was his dad. She was so understanding, it made him fall for her even more, but it still took him a while to finally ask her the big question.
When he finally did, she said yes, and they got married.
She was immortal, and even though the idea of living forever wasn’t one that he liked very much, he still decided to stop aging for her, the thing was that he didn’t tell her, didn’t ask her if that was what she wanted. He ended up finding out that she didn’t like the idea, he thought she would be happy, but it seemed to be too much for her. The next day, he saw that she was with her bags packed and ready to leave, that was when their relationship ended.
After that, he planned to move away, he saw no reason to stay there anymore, too many bad things happened in that city, but he found a letter. It was from his mom, she wrote it the first time that her husband laid a hand on her, which apparently was happening for a while, but she didn’t tell Santiago. She wrote it because she was afraid he would do more than just hit her. She told him everything in the letter, how he was a hybrid, how his father was not the man she was married to, where to find him, everything.
He felt a small hope, hope that at least one of his parents would still be alive, that he wouldn’t be alone, until he found out that he was killed. It wasn’t hard to connect the dots, because he was found dead on the same day that his step father was having a fight with his mom and that she also died, her husband must have killed his real father.
That was the day he decided to actually move away. He visited his mom’s grave, talked to her for a while, but she wasn’t the only one he visited, his was father was on that list, his real one. He found out where he was buried, and spent hours talking to him, as if he was having a normal conversation with an alive person, hoping that he was there with him listening to him.
At the end of the day, he had everything packed, and was on his way to NYC.
It has been 54 years since it all happened, and that he lived in the big apple, but he still felt guilty for not doing something sooner, still felt guilty for his mother’s death, and still felt guilty for having killed an innocent person when he was 16 years old to have the gene triggered.

Exes: after his first love, he fell a few more times. Took him some time to actually date someone, but when he was like 34 or so, he had his first girlfriend.
Flings: he slept around A LOT, so he would have plenty of them.
Friends with benefit: also plenty of them.
Ex wife: he got married once, but things ended, I can’t really imagine him ending a marriage, because if he’s marrying someone, he has to be REALLY in love, and I can’t imagine him breaking things off, but the person can pick the reason why she would want to end things! Cheating can’t be one of them though.
Friends: he has been in NYC for a while now, so he probably has some friends.
Bffs: this one I will limit to like 2, cause he’s really loveable, but I can’t imagine him having more, because of his trust issues. (1/2)
People he met because of his job: as a firefighter, he could have answered a call because of the fire alarm going off, or maybe they made the call, doesn’t even need to be because they were in trouble, maybe because their neighbor was or something like that.
