((Flashback - The Training - The Mesmer Collective))

The darkness of the cave was nearly as blinding as the intensity of the Sun. Lathspell stumbled in slowly, blinking several times as the walls provided a fair guide against the palm of his hand. Waiting, Stormcrow’s eyes adjust to the torches ahead.

With an exasperated grunt, he makes his way deeper into the depths of darkness, the sweat trailing down his chest and back despite the coolness of the cave. Finally the wall falls away, into what appears to be a vast cavernous grotto, well lit for the flames of the immense fire in the center, and the many torches about. Sitting beside the fire, is a linen wrapped form, head covered, legs crossed, seemingly intent on the snapping fire. Whilst no notice is taken of Crow who makes his way further toward the figure, the words echo around and inside his mind.

“Come in, My Son. Sit. We have much to discuss.”

((Flashback - The Training begins - The Mesmer Collective ))

The ascent to the cave entrance was nothing short of a struggle for life and death. Between the local wildlife, the Awakened and the heat of the sun, Stormcrow falls onto his chest and face with the last push over the peak of the immense rock.

Panting, trickles of sweat running down his face and neck, Crow lies there prone on the sandy ledge for several moments. Eyes closed, he speaks to himself quietly, reluctant to move for fear he will open his eyes and find a mirage, and not an actual cave entrance.

“If this...is not the cave of the Elder....I may throw myself from this ledge.”

The whispered words are spoken more to himself than any other, and yet, he is no longer alone when he speaks. The deep, gravelly voice penetrates the air between them, before seeping into his brain, echoing within.

“You have found the one you seek. Now rise. Come inside. I have been awaiting you.”

One day.” The words sounded uncertain, yet...he said them back to her. “But first, we must learn the truth. First we must know if we have a far greater chance to save Elona than we imagined.”
