He felt safe, and he felt warm.

For a child who had never even met his mother, he felt right at home with her. This would most definitely be the best moment in his life; one he would remember for as long as he will live. Small arms reaching around as much of her as he could, nuzzling against his mother like that of a puppy.

His own tears began to soak whatever portion of her dressed he reached, a hiccup or two bubbling out of the boy. It was most likely that she didn’t much care; nothing else in the moment mattered but this one that was long desired.

Pulling Steven more tightly to her, not even noticing her tear-stained dress, Rose choked out a teary laugh of joy. "Steven..." She began, stroking his hair. "Steven... I love you very, very much." Of all the things Rose had daydreamed, of all the things she'd wanted to say, she could think of nothing more vital that she wanted to tell the boy.

Finally, Rose drew away slightly, smiling warmly.

He now began to twiddle with his fingers, sniffling and once again rubbing away the tears that stained his pink cheeks. Ah yes, that’s right. She had no idea what this boy was doing let alone know who he even was. Momentarily it had only been a letdown; the little gem laughing a bit nervously.

As choked up as he was becoming, hopefully she would believe him. 

"I’m— No. No, you don’t know me. N-not that much. I didn’t really expect you to, to be quite honest. But… I definitely know who you are. A-A lot of people do. I’ve been telling them all about you. . !”

There was a brief pause. He noticed she too was becoming quite anxious as well as perhaps frustrated, a slight frown coming across his features. But he was there to comfort her. He could finally be here for the person of which he never fathomed he’d ever come in direct contact with. It was all so unreal.

The boy timidly reached out to her, a reassuring palm gently resting against the back of her own hand. Now was the time he found it appropriate to move a little closer to Rose, hoping he had not been overstepping any boundaries. A moment to where he had to take in a deep breath to calm himself before getting all worked up again.

"My name is Steven… Heh. S-Steven… Quartz Universe."

It felt as though the ground had fallen out from under her. Eyes widening, Rose put a hand to her mouth.

"I--" Ducking her head down, Rose felt tears in her eyes. It couldn't be-- But it was, and he was here. The child that Rose Quartz had thought that she would never be able to hold in her arms. The son that she loved so dearly, even without meeting him. Until now. Looking back the boy-- at Steven, Rose was still for a moment, before leaning forward and wrapping her arms around Steven, holding him tightly to her.

"Steven..." She whispered, choking back tears. There were so many things she had imagined saying to her son, she'd even recorded some of them, leaving them in hopes that he would not feel that she'd left him completely alone. But nothing came out, save his name. For him, it must have been so long, such a long time without her, not knowing her. How old was he now? Was he happy? How were her comrades holding up? How-- how was Greg? Was everyone safe? A million questions ran through her head, jumbling together with every other thought.

It had to be.

Perhaps Lion was laying across his face again while he was napping! Yeah, that sounds about right! The issue with that though? He could actually breathe this time; not to mention that this dream world looked just like the Hive instead of the lush cotton candy colored fields he ran through. (Then this would be some sort of nightmare). So he wasn’t going to be choking up hairballs by the end of this, which was a very good sign.

Though he still had his minor doubts. The young boy, with mouth still hung ajar from initial shock, absentmindedly reached up to his arm and gently pinched himself. Nope. Still here and definitely awake. Oh, but… was she a hallucination then? A hologram? The scientists around here, he learned, did tend to work in cruel and unfortunate ways.

Only one way to find out

Not even bothering to answer her question as curiosity took over, Steven reached out both of his trembling hands towards her very being, ever so gently grasping her crisp white frills she wore and tugging on them ever so slightly. Starry eyes grew wide with anticipation and awe, keeping a tight grip on her dress

It was her.

It was really truly her.

"I-I. . I Think I found something I thought I’d never find—"

Emotions were beginning to get the best of him without a doubt. Breathless laughter rumbled out of the young gem, forcing himself to step away from the woman so he wouldn’t get too overwhelmed. His knees felt weak; he felt like he was going to vomit. But he of course resisted. With the back of his hand he wiped away the oncoming tears that soaked his face, soon after fumbling with the hem of his shirt as he just let them roll down.

She couldn't shake this feeling, that this child was very important. That she was missing something. Kneeling to his level, she looked at him in slight surprise. He knew her?
