Biblically accurate Frankenstein
okay this is probably really dumb and self indulgent buuuut! The Patchverse is very inspired by Frankenstein elements as we all know! And that got me thinking- Frankenstein is my favorite book maybe ever sooo what ifff I drew some of the characters in the fashions from when the book took place!! Very long winded explanation for no reason idk, I just got struck with the idea of putting them in non-specific late 1700s fashion (I was mainly going for the 1790s though)
Only Patch and Crow have been given anthro forms but I wanted to draw more characters so I kind of made shit up I hope they look okay!
(This will just be rambling about the clothes and crap so if u don’t care about that u dont have to read) I chose the 1790’s for inspiration because if I recall correctly the book never states WHEN in the 1700s it is and I just like to imagine it as close to the 1800s as possible because that’s when Mary Shelley wrote it. The specific year their outfits are from though is just indiscernible, I took inspiration from the whole decade. Hayfever is inspired by a fashion illustration from later on in the decade. I made the arms of her sleeves a darker color than the rest of her dress because the fur on her legs is darker! Also, I specifically gave her Scarlet Fever because that’s what Elizabeth Lavenza and Caroline Beaufort get sick with in the book! I tried to give Patchface a more practical dress because she’s doing a bunch of cutting and operating and dissecting and reconstructing in it. Olivepaw’s stockings are red because of her violet tendencies hehehe. Apart from Crowfood, they’re all in fashion that is more ‘upper class’ because the protagonists in the book are aristocrats. I imagine here though that the clothes Crowfood is wearing were found randomly instead of tailored for her, like The Monster lol. The reason I out her in men’s clothes was because in my head the coat kind of reminds me of a trench coat which reminds me of a comically evil villain in a big trench coat, so I just wanted her to look 💥eeeeviiil💥 LOL 😠In the corner, Hoppaw and Cuckoopaw are playing with a little wooden sword, which is a reference to the Junji Ito adaptation of Frankenstein where Henry and Victor play with swords in a flashback scene! The skull is Cuckoopaw’s hand is just a Hamlet thing dw it’s not real.. I tried to base their hairstyles off of ones that I saw in paintings while also trying to keep the character’s fur texture and charm in them, and I hope I did okay there? The background is all pieces from 1700s clothing/bags/embroidery. I probably slipped up on quite a few things outfit wise but I tried to do all the correct research!! :D I LOVE HISTORICAL FASHION!!!
Patchface, Crowfood, Midgepaw, Olivepaw, and Hayfever belong to @scarechrow, and Hoppaw belongs to @sapphiclittlecryptid !
