Why Caregivers Say No
Little asking to do big things
Why I say no: It’s too dangerous for you
Little asking for more sweets
Why I say no: You need healthy food to feel good and you’re going to get a tummy ache
Little asking to stay up past bedtime
Why I say no: You need a good nights sleep to play tomorrow
Little asking to stay asleep
Why I say no: Sleeping too much will make you groggy
I say no because:
I care about you
Fun activities for regressors to do if they can’t be with a caregiver:
~ have a tea party with your stuffies
~ watch your favorite show and sing along to the theme song
~ play with your favorite toys
~ play in a pool (with floaties!)
~ play doctor with your stuffies
~ draw your dream nursery/bedroom
~ draw your stuffies if they were human
~ design your dream paci/rattle
I hope some of these help! Add some of your ideas if I missed them!

Just because the days are repetitive at the moment, it does not mean you are not still making progress. You are not wasting your life. You still have time.

⌛️ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɪꜱ ɪᴍᴘᴜʀᴇ ʀᴇɢʀᴇꜱꜱɪᴏɴ? ⌛️
impure regression is a form of age regression where due to the regressor having childhood trauma, it can to the regression to be dark and scary. it may also be caused by high levels of stress or an overwhelming time in someone’s life, it is a trauma response / something our mind may do to try and get us to escape a tuff situation in life.
it feels different for everyone, for me personally- i shut down in a way, i become very quiet ( nonverbal for the most part ) and my mind gets very cloudy. i can’t cry but i feel like sobbing, i can’t talk but I feel like screaming, i can barely move but i feel like running. i get anxious and almost scared of everything around me and just feel very vulnerable. using agere items and watching cartoons calms my mind and helps everything seem very simple.
it can include but not be limited to :
anxiety / panic attacks
crying / breaking down
becoming nonverbal
losing all energy to do anything
ptsd episodes / flashbacks
having intrusive thoughts
slipping in and out of your regression
feeling embarrassed or ashamed
getting angry / throwing tantrums
and much more- you do not have to experience all of these or any of these to regress impurely, they are just some common examples. any of these would be happening while you or whoever is regressed. I’m not talking about in everyday life.
that’s why it’s so intense sometimes, because it’s basically a child going through those things.

before we get started :
these tips will obviously not help everyone and should not be someone’s only resource for this topic! the main resource you should be using is communication. before anything, communicate with your little one and see how they think you can better yourself with this topic.
────────── · · · ·
☕️ be aware of your tone / choice of words
🧦 ask things instead of demanding things
🐾 there is nothing wrong with lots of reassurance / communication
☕️ don’t get upset with them / take out your frustrations on them
🧦 give them a sticker or comfort item if they get upset / doubtful / etc.
🐾 let them cry things out / let them express their emotions
────────── · · · ·
[ tip explanations ] ☕️🧦🐾
☕️ be aware of your tone / choice of words - this one is quite simple. I don’t have to do much explaining but I will say that you might be very clear on what you mean or what your tone is but your little one might accidentally get the wrong idea and that is completely okay. you didn’t make a mistake and they might just be feeling a bit unwary so all you need to do is assure them on what your intentions were with what you said!
🧦 ask things instead of demanding things - this one is so simple yet can be very helpful. you or your little one might not even notice that you need to change this but here’s what I mean-
instead of saying “go brush your teeth” or “you should go brush your teeth” say “can you go try and brush your teeth (for me)?”
instead of saying “go eat something” or “you should go eat something” say “do you think you could try and get something eat?”
there are many ways you can ask instead of demand and “demanding” isn’t bad but asking can sound much softer and lenient. sometimes “demanding” is good because some little ones like when they have someone to remind them to do things, etc. but when asking- also make sure your little one knows it’s okay to tell you NO. if they don’t feel like they can go eat something, they do not have to at that minute.
🐾 there is nothing wrong with lots of reassurance / communication - if you have to constantly reassure your little one, that is perfectly okay and there’s no reason for it to be considered a bad thing. for example :
you might tell them something and they might mistake you for being “mad”, if they get upset, etc. just make sure they know that you aren’t upset or mad. have them tell you “why they thought you were mad at them” and then explain what your actual emotions were.
☕️ don’t get upset with them / take out your frustrations out on them - you are human, you are allowed to get frustrated and stressed out but you don’t need to take that out on them / discuss that with them while they’re regressed. when they aren’t regressed, you both can have a conversation about your feelings.
🧦 this one might seem silly but if they feel upset or doubtful or anything else and you can’t find an easy way to reassure them, give them a sticker or a comfort item - this can help them focus on something else instead of their emotions or doubts. after whatever it is calms their mind then you guys can have a talk about it was that made them feel that way.
🐾 let them cry things out / express their emotions - this one is also simple. sensitive little ones may cry a lot or may have lots of emotions to deal with so letting them cry or let their emotions out in healthy ways is good! ways they can do it healthily -
writing out their emotions in a notebook
talking it out with you or a stuffie
drawing out their emotions

these are things I experience often / think of often that people might not also but I don’t know, I just wanted to make this and share my thoughts :]
☕️ how intensely numbing impure regression can be - it’s not always crying or having fits, sometimes it’s just sitting down feeling so vulnerable but not being able to express any emotions. it makes you numb, anxious, exhausted.
🧦 how lonely it can be without a caregiver - you sometimes start to feel like an abandoned child.
⌛️ feeling hopeless / like regressing is useless - because you’ll never be able to actually get your childhood back. especially if you never had a childhood to begin with, it just hurts to know that you have to pretend just to be able to feel like you were ever a kid in the first place.
☕️ how misunderstood most regression is - people always say you’d not need trauma and make sure to validate those who regress just to regress yet still never talk about how intense regressing because of trauma, is. or push past those who regress because of trauma.
🧦 how sexualized the pastel / girly regression is - we think the accounts that have a pastel aesthetic / a cis woman running it are just favored because of the aesthetic / because the owner is pretty but in reality they have all those followers most of the time because of the amount of people sexualizing them. even if their followers are genuine, which they almost always are, they are still so sexualized behind the scenes.
⌛️ how horrible it feels to be big after regressing - it’s like reality hits you and you realize you’re not an actual kid.
☕️ when the realization of not actually being a kid hit when you are regressed - that just hurts so bad, you’ll have a stuffie and be coloring then all of the sudden you realize you aren’t an actual kid and just slowly start to slip out of regression.

don’t ever feel bad for asking me to tag a trigger
i do not care what the trigger is
i will tag it for you
you have legitimate reasons to be triggered by it
and i am not one to question those reasons
so just send me an ask
anonymous if you’re scared
and i will tag it all the time in future
your wellbeing is worth twenty extra seconds of my time at least
don’t ever feel bad if i dont remember to tag it
i might be on mobile
i might be dumb
i might have forgotten
just send me an ask
anon if you’re scared
i’ll correct it
your wellbeing is worth twenty extra seconds of my time at least
I say this as a person with a decently smallish trigger that comes up often, but has been getting tagged more, and believe me,
I will tag it (as much as I can remember) because
👏No👏Trigger👏is👏too👏small👏or👏uncommon👏to👏tag👏
I do the best I can but feel free to message me!

What vent regression is and what it feels like
Vent regression (formerly known as impure regression) is regressing due to negative triggers and just in general an unpleasant regression experience.
When vent regressing you will usually have negative emotions (feeling depressed or angry, etc) but deal with them in your regressed mindset. This could involve crying, screaming, panic attacks, etc. For neurodivergent regressors this may also involve going non-verbal, sensory overloads, meltdowns or shutdowns.
While regular regression is usually supposed to be a positive experience and coping mechanism, vent regression is the exact opposite of play regression (formerly known as pure regression).
How do I handle this?
Distract, distract, distract!
At least this is what helps me. Try to turn your unpleasant regression into fun regression! Watch cartoons, put on some happy music and color something! Whatever helps you usually regress into your regular headspace. If you have a cg, talk to them about it (if you’re capable to do so).
Remember, there’s absolutely no shame in vent regressing. It’s just your minds natural response to an overwhelming situation. Your regression is still completely valid, even if it consists of vent regression most of the time!
Origins of the terms vent & play regression as alternatives to impure & pure regression
