Ā Ā Ā REPOST, DONāT REBLOG.
Blurred faces were normal to her, as were the points on them. But even she could tell the eyes that held no pupil were set on her. Her head bowed in an almost submissive way, eyes rarely looking up at the face.
She did not like this.
āI suppose it does. It is. Quiet enough f-for that.ā
"The trees are a quiet place, yes. There is no birdsong here and the winter snow muffles everything around it; sometimes the North Wind blows his tune through the branches, but he lacks real Ā o p e r a.
That is my specialty."
Now it seemed the Beast wasĀ pointedly ignoring her discomfort, a slight tilt of his head the only indication he was even paying any attention to the one before him.
"Do you sing?"

ā¼ā -"Only the number one dream demon around, pal! The nameās Bill. Bill Cipher.āĀ
"It seems you will find no Ā d r e a m e r s Ā here, Cipher. Nonetheless: I amĀ pleased to meet you."
The creature did not note when exactly his path strayed from the familiar woods of his Unknown to the barren, frozen hills of... somewhere else. At first the landscapes must have simply blurred together, close-packed trees giving way to clearings of snow and curious stones marked with runes he had no name for. The knowledge of the change, in turn, came as slowly as the wet flakes drifting down around the Beast but the realization halted his travel until the creature was so still he could have been just another of the strange landmarks.
Minutes passed; no steamy puffs of breath drew attention to the Beast as he took stock of this new land and as he stood the falling snow began to settle, outlining the graceful curves of his antlers and clinging to the rougher fabric draped about his shoulders. For a creature more inclined to tranquility the thought of being lost unnerved him, and as one familiar with the ways of magic the Beast knew he could not simply turn around and follow his already blurring tracks back to the forest he called home. That door must already be sealed--continuing forward was his best bet.
Perhaps this change of heart sent a ripple through the trees around him, or perhaps he had already lingered too long: It seemed as soon as the Beast made up his mind to resume walking the snow began to fall faster and what dull light illuminated the sky started to drain away. Nightfall would come presently, and in this land the Beast did not know whether the dark should bring him fear so he hurried at a more rapid pace, uncharacteristic in his hurry. Finally a river barred his way farther south and the creature paused by the waters edge, eyes peering into the icy depths as if seeking answers in the current.
Ā Ā Ā "There lies a Ā p r e s e n c e Ā here," the Beast remarked after a moment; he could feel Ā Ā Ā it as clearly as if someone stood beside him. "Tell me: who claims this forest?"
[ he pauses, eyes narrowing at the gaze opposite. a striking contrast, especially against the shadowy forest. he barely knows anything, other than the stories of travelers eventually disappearing into the abyss, never to return. ]
I suppose I wouldnāt mind the company. A guide I have no need forā Iām not planning on returning to where I came from anytime soon.
[ this was his mistake. itās likely that now, his fate has been sealed with such simple words. he will join those of his childhood stories without even realizing it.Ā ]
[No, the Beast thought--he won't be returning anywhere, Like many of the travelers before him, the forest had now staked its claim, and the forest would receive what it was due. Still, when he spoke it was with a hint of wry humor, as if the stranger's words amused him.]
Perhaps a guide is not needed to return from whence you came--but destinations are finicky things, and might warrant a companion.
I will... stick Ā a r o u n d, if it is your preference.
[That earned a laugh out of him, not loud or rude, just a little snuff and a roll of the shoulders. Even perfect strangers (okay, weāre using that term loosely here) wanted him dead right off the bat. Charming. Not that he expected much else, all things considered. The Beastās aura rolled off of him like summer fog, foreboding and cloying, but with that god-awful glint of far off light that held Stevenās interest a little too well. There was no help to be found here, but that hadnāt stopped him before.]Ā
'An end all the same.' Hm. You could at least take me out for a nice dinner before you start in on the vague threats. Thatās third-date stuff. Give me a little something to work with before you go trying to put me down.
[There seemed to be two conversations happening simultaneously; words flowing in one direction from the Beast were picked up and tilted around until they were nothing like his intention.Ā Annoying, to say the least, but the creature made this note with no malice--with nothing more than the same distant acceptance he treated every other part of the world around him. Ā .]
You misunderstand, stranger. I will take no part in your burial--I do not take life.
Ā Ā Ā I give it.
Does the acorn fear its return to the soil?
[He knew ones like Steven. A facade of aloofness and poise, but under the surface a child mindlessly seeking attention, affirmation, acceptance, no matter the consequence. The BeastĀ could work with that.]
