“Yeah… I know… You were mine too. Made it even harder… I lost so many things that night.”

“I’m so sorry Gray...”

“Y-yeah… that would probably be a good idea. It has been a long time… the longest we’ve ever gone without seeing each other…”

“It has. I’ve missed a lot. I’ve missed you a lot. And not just even in a romantic sense. You were my best friend.” 

He reached out taking the phone from her and typing in his number before handing it back. “Just call me or text me… whenever…” he told her looking to meet her eyes.

She met his eye and gave him a soft smile. “I will. Maybe we could catch up sometime?” She asked, tentatively. 

“So I guess I should give you my number again then… that way we can stay in touch or whatever,” he said running a hand over his face.

“That would be good.” She said, taking her phone out of her hoodie pocket and handing it to him. 

“Okay,” he bit his lip looking down between them for a moment before looking back up at her. “Did you change your number? Or you just never answered me after you left?”

“Sort of both. When I first left, I just never answered and then about a month later I changed my number.”

“Okay… because if it comes to that… He needs to stay with me. One day you can meet him. With me there. Always with me there. Until I’m comfortable with you being alone with him,” he told her running his fingers through his hair, the entire situation still shocking to him, terrifying to him.

“I would expect nothing less from you, Gray.” She whispered. 

“Back in your life… but you don’t plan on taking him from me or anything, right?” he asked her looking at her warily, his stomach at his feet at the thought of losing his son.

“No. I wouldn’t do that to you.” She answered him. She was being honest. She wouldn’t take Jaxson from him. But she also wanted them to be a family. She wanted Grayson back and she knew that would be harder. 

“I don’t really know what my comfort level is at the moment. I mean you had to of had a plan or what you wanted out of coming back here…”

“My only plan was to prove to you that I’m here to stay and to get my son back in my life.” She conveniently left out the part where she wanted him back. She could bring that up in due time. 

“So what happens now?”

“Honestly, it’s up to you. It’s up to your comfort level.”
