saw obsession for the third time tonight. greatest score of the decade, i cried this go around. my golden rule of horror is that if you want it to be scary, it has to be sad, and cast and crew nailed it. i love movies.

8 years later and still no other show is doing it like DARK. Story starts with a kid going missing, and they’re happy to explain to you exactly where he is and what happened by s1e5. Every plot twist is both extremely guessable and devastating. One of the main characters of the first season is put in life imprisonment and they’re just There For The Rest Of The Show. It’s actively unusual for a recurring character to not die onscreen. The petty drama of every interaction feeds directly into existential horror. Every episode ends with a ~3 minute musical montage while all the characters sit with their quiet tragedies. There’s four or five different characters who provide mysterious voiceovers. One of the recurring quotes is a line from a thrash metal song about a zombie. You could count the number of times the main character smiles on your fingers. There’s at least seven different conspiracy boards put together by various different people and all of them are wrong about important details. A new major character shows up in season 2 who is completely unrelated to any other plot thread and who is so unbelievably unlikable and inconvenient it wraps back around to being thoroughly entertaining. Two of the less important characters met and got together in a plot taken straight from a Wattpad fanfiction— he was a fugitive murderer, actively bleeding out, who randomly popped out of the woods to pull a gun on her bullies— and they have the healthiest relationship in the show. Another character tries to start a romantic relationship by dropping in on his soul mate’s high school class, and despite the fact she’s never met him before and he looks terrible and his hands are actively covered in blood and she already has a boyfriend this somehow actually works? but she murders him the next day anyway for unrelated reasons. Every one of the characters can leave their hellhole hometown anytime they want and yet none of them even try. Only one of the show’s three scheming masterminds ever actually finished high school. oh and, you want to watch the show? have fun keeping track of 34 recurring characters played by 71 different actors, you worm. watch with subtitles not dubs
