Dancer looking at her sole, Edgar Degas, Nationalmuseum, SWE
Degas never released these sculptures during his lifetime. They were sketches, working models, orignally made in less durable materials such as wax, plaster and clay. Degas had not dated or signed the sculptures. Over 150 sculptures were found in his studio after his death in 1917, and almost all had started to decay. Degas’s heirs therefore decided to allow 72 of the scuptures to be cast in bronze in several editions.

MICHELLE’S CLASSIC MOVIES TO WATCH DURING QUARANTINE
(no one cares)
I know we’re all sitting inside right now, some of us are probably more busy than the others but I think films are always a good way to pass the time and since i have around 200 movies to watch for my “classic cinema” class i thought i could share a few titles with you lads.
- It happened one night (1934) Frank Capra - it’s light, easy to watch i like young Clark Gabe so i enjoyed it a lot
- Public Enemy (1931) William Welleman - one of my favorite movies! It’s a pre-Code gangster movie so i understand it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but i mean...it is mine. Tommy looks so much like Alexander DeLarge it’s kinda scary
- Top Hat (1935) Mark Sandrich - musical, another fun and easy to watch not the best i’ve seen but good to have it watched.
- The Ox-bow Incident (1943) William Welleman - i looooove old school Westerns and this is not your typical movie about good and bad cowboys. It’s extremely interesting and pretty heavy at times
- 3.10 to Yuma (1957) Glen Ford - another western! again, not a typical wester and that’s what makes it so interesting!
- Chapaev (1945) The Vasilyev Brothers - well okay...this is an old Russian movie about a comandor of the Red Army who became a great hero of the Russian Civil War...to be honest i was sure i wouldn’t like or enjoy it but i genuinely did
- Makbet (1948) Orson Welles - i don’t particularly like Welles’ work but i do enjoy a good Shakspeare’s adaptation. I was extremely impressed by the unusual scenography and also the long shots and a very theatrical way of performance from the actors.
- The Lady from Shanghai (1946) Orson Welles - Welles again...i don’t know, if you look at it as “another welles’ film” you might not like it, but the story is interesting the ending isn’t disappointing to me and it’s just fun to watch in my opinion
- Sunset Bulevard (1950) Billy Wilder - ah! i love, i juts love this movie i love Gloria Swanson in it! Especially since i had to go over the whole Silent Cinema era at uni last year. It stays with you!
- Rebel Without a Cause (1955) Nicholas Ray - okay sooo, i’m sure most of you have seen or at least heard about this one. Look i don’t...i didn’t like it! I don’t doubt that in the times it came out it was a great movie but in my opinion it didn’t held up too well. I make my friends watch it to tell me what they thought about it.
———
So here are some of my suggestions! i watched around 50 or 60 movies from that list now and picking 10 that i actually enjoyed and thought were interesting was...a challenge.
If you’ll decide to watch some of these or even one, i’d love to hear your opinion on them!
Okay i think that’s all! Thanks for your attention!
