The Constants & Their Patrons
Constants are known to mankind as their namesake, for the reason that they are each a manifesto of a specific, unchanging multiversal constant.
The first is Time. Known as both Quarter Till and also the Clockholder, in some regions, he is the manifestation of times continued passing.
Space is considerably shorter than the others, yet works easily and flares out with a mighty temper. He is representative of the size, prowess, and vastness of space.
Death is seen as a bad luck symbol in some regions, and it is said attempting contact with death could end catastrophically. He is a manifestation of the fact that death is imminent and unavoidable.
Matter, the last of the four, is the tallest and also considerably the most antagonistic. He represents all physical matter, and the psychological fact that in the world everything “matters”.
Patrons can be either humans who have begun working for a constant, or a creature which was designed with the sole purpose to serve.
Space has 2 patrons. They are easily identified by their nearly identical uniforms - which would be entirely identical if one hadn’t had a rebellious phase Space needed to teach them a lesson about.
Time has 3 patrons - built by his own hands - each named after a measurement of time, and all easily recognizable as being built of golden material.
Death has 4 patrons. Three of these patrons are undead - and as it seems part of their work involves dissuading rumors and dispelling lies about their past deaths and rebirths. The last of his patrons is a young bird-lady named Edith. She appears to be the only one who hadn’t yet died. They’re all recognizable by the presence of red in their outfits.
Matter has 1 patron, which might be a sign of poor influencing were his patron anyone else. However, a giant robot - even with prescription glasses he’s nigh blind without - is an intimidating foe. Especially one who is described as “beefy” by Edith.
