Some of the most glamorous mermaids owe their ornamentation to camouflage, hiding or hunting unseen in their environment. The hairy ghost pipefish mermaid eats small crustaceans and amphipods while surrounded by red algae. Flanked by seaweed, she rocks in time with the drifting fronds, so you almost miss her. Which would be a shame, really.
