DETTLAFF;
Part of Dettlaff envies how seamlessly Orianna melds into human society, as if it were only a simple game of dress-up to her. She’s confident, self-assured, and speaks with humans as if she were one herself. But he knows this kind of life is far from any he’d be comfortable living– these lavish parties, the expensive jewelry and other refineries, it’s too much for him. Too human.
He’d only ever known Orianna through Regis in their youth, and even then he could not call her an acquaintance, not recalling if they had ever even exchanged a word through one another until his more recent arrival in Toussaint. Regardless, her presence was a welcome one, especially to be among his own kind where masquerades could be let down more easily.
❝ Mademoiselle Orianna, ❞ he nods in reverence to her, turning only slightly so that he faces her. ❝ I thank you for the invitation, your place is just as lovely as I have heard. I assume Regis yet to arrive ? ❞ Admittedly Dettlaff’s comfort in the company of groups depended largely upon the other vampire’s presence, where he felt he could be more at ease and speak with a certain refinement than when on his lonesome.
❝ The balconies will suffice. ❞
“Thank you, Dettlaff. Come.” Orianna tilts her head & turns, hands poised at her waist as she walks forward, leading her guest into the upper reaches of her estate. She is certainly not surprised by his decision to distance himself from her human patrons. "As for Regis, I am uncertain. He did not give me a definitive answer as to whether or not he will be joining us, though his presence is, of course, welcome.”
It has been some time since she has seen Dettlaff last — decades, really. Toussaintois vampires tend to be at least aware of each other’s existence if they are not already friends. In youth this is especially true, when banding together to terrorize local humans is something of a party.
She was somewhat infatuated by him when she was young, as were a lot of their kind, regardless of gender. It is not something that still lingers on her mind, though she was reminded of her ... youthful escapades due to his presence.
“I would like to thank you for going out of your way to help Regis,” she says, once they are overlooking the party below them. “He is very dear to me & hearing word of his death was ... devastating, to say the least. To hear that he is alive & well was a joy incomparable to much else.”
