Basically, the author is upset with the growing popularity of the word "queer" as it's too vague (too welcoming, one might argue he was carefully avoiding saying) and scares conservatives too much. It rings with biphobia when the author expresses displeasure that people who are "unlikely to ever pursue a same-sex relationship" are still part of the community. It's reminiscent of conservatives' arguments of queer people being predators when the author says under the umbrella public sex could be considered queer. (There's also a smattering of shaming sex workers in there too, because why not while he's at it, right?)

I think the author, who introduces himself by explaining the conservative environment he grew up in, has some internalized queerphobia he would do well to examine in private rather than take it out on the people who views as being too weird to possibly share a label with. We should not have to conform, to be "normal," to be accepted and respected.

I do think there's a bit of a point somewhere in there, that I don't think he intended to make, or at least be taken in this way: there is, at least in my mind, a difference between being gay and being queer. Being gay is a sexual orientation. Being queer is how you see the world. You can be both, or one, or neither. But people like him need to realize that being just gay won't protect them for long.

It was queer people -- queer -- who fought for our rights (whether or not they used the label themselves when it had a different meaning then, they fit the meaning he uses today). They were trans women of color, homeless, sex workers, mentally ill. Silvia Rivera called out a similar divide pushing people like her to the side.

She is not healthy. This is not me body shaming, it's me acknowledging something I hope we can all see. I don't want to body shame her, I don't want to shame her at all -- her health is not her fault. It is our fault, however, if we don't make sure the girls and young women who look up to her know that this is not a standard they should ever aspire to. I'm not exaggerating when I say people will die if we don't tell them that.

But I am shaming someone: I'm shaming society's expectation of women to be as thin as possible; I'm shaming a culture that glorifies things like Ozempic, not for health, but for aesthetics (and to be clear, I am all for women having autonomy and doing what they want with their bodies, but I am not for the social norms that push them in specific directions that also happen to be the most pleasing to men); I'm shaming both the people who are using this as an excuse to make unnecessary comments on women's bodies and the people who push this important conversation away because they're uncomfortable with it.

Thinness becomes en vogue especially when the people in charge are afraid of us resisting. They want us -- physically, mentally, and otherwise -- weak. We can't use our power and fight for ourselves if we don't have the nutrients to spend energy on that.

Shane's high school girlfriend Jessica (mentioned briefly in canon) shows up at his door in Montreal after being kicked out by her parents for coming out as gay. Obviously, being Shane, he invites her to stay with him. But heteronormativity intervenes, and soon his teammates assume he has a girlfriend. With no better option, he asks Jessica to pretend to be his date for a night. However, it spirals from there when the media (and then Yuna) gets involved.

I was working the morning shift, by myself, vibing with my music on even though it was kind of busy because I swear a whole office showed up all at once. Some of them placed their orders with me, some placed them on the kiosk, I'm making drinks and sandwiches as fast as I can. The kiosk sends text alerts when I finish an order, but none of these people must've been checking their phones, and since none of the other places on that floor were open yet I decided to just call out the orders (like vanilla latte or whatever, because only the ones on the kiosk have names attached).
