watching the gaza genocide so closely has. i don't know i don't have any patience for all the foundational myths of liberal modernity anymore. like all the ooh we're all so much more civilised than ancient people who did child sacrifices we're so much better than those slaveholders we're so much better we're enlightened. we have been watching a besieged people be bombed without relief and our major institutions have justified it.

It recently became department policy to purchase all our animal care supplies online and have them shipped, but my work location (public park) doesn't have a mailbox, so we've been getting things shipped directly to the post office. Today I went to pick up a shipment of several hundred superworms but the postal workers are insisting that it's not possible to have packages shipped directly to the post office. I gave them a tracking number which revealed they were delivered a couple days ago and now they're looking for them. Somewhere in the post office are 500 lost worms.

Honestly I can’t blame the postal worker; my advisor lost his grub ordering privileges after he failed to pick up a delivery from the front desk on time and they all hatched and escaped.

They told me not to have live bugs designated as Hold For Pickup anymore :(

i know it's long been passé to say "it's not my job to educate you" but man some people are just fatally incurious about the world. it's not healthy to entrust others to wholly dictate and spoonfeed your own reality to you. honing your own critical thinking is necessary for survival

the thing about disability is it really does sometimes boil down to "wow i wish i could do that" and then you can't. and it sucks.

accomodations are important but i think they miss the point of this post. sometimes you can't do it. at all. someone needs to do it for you or it will never happen.
