Futures ā Reflection
The futures module was a challenging but interesting learning experience. I can see that the futures model is quite far reaching and based in conceptualism. I think that it represents a vital part of what it is to be a successful designer. The task in this class was to have a conversation with a peer about their favourite song. From this we had to put together a return brief and finally create a design artefact.Ā
It was refreshing to have somewhat un-conventional creative expectations put on the development of this assessment piece. Writing a piece of text and then styling it in accordance with my own feelings about the conversation and subject matter was a really great jumping off point for the task. I hadnāt really had the opportunity to do something like this in the previous semester or other classes. At the moment the model seems to be that we are given a piece of text and told to style it how we please. I find a lot of the time the text is really dry or un-relatable so it was a great experience to be able to manipulate the text form the ground up.Ā
I think futures module can help my practice a lot as it really encourages approaching issues from a different angle. Iāve often found that this is the best way to create something unique and inspiring. The task we were given was great as it was essentially focussed around having a meaningful connection with the person you are designing for. I though this was a really interesting concept as a lot of the time we seem to be designing without having this person or group in mind. Having an honest conversations with the people or groups I am designing for is something I see as key to the development of my practice.
