This drama is reminding me for the umpteenth time how unsuited I would be to be a protagonist of a revenge story.

This is the same I felt watching the ML of Zang Hai or every other revenge narrative - yes yes yes sure terrible things happened to you. However, the terrible things are no longer happening. If you don't revenge, you can live a perfectly fine life. Your dead won't come back to life even if you get your vengeance and what you are doing is wasting your future for the sake of your past. (Not to mention, by wronging people as collateral damage in your revenge, creating a neverending cycle where someone comes after you etc etc.)

Just as I wanted to yell at Zang Hai - instead of fucking with that nice hottie who loves you in service of revenge, why don't you just live a nice life with them?

It is one thing if the person is shown as so damaged they can't live a normal life no matter what (see Vendetta of An; there was nothing left in him) but in most of those narratives this is not the case.

This chick is a monster and a psycho and a self-fixated manipulator who inflicts a ton of damage and should be six feet under

So is literally every FWSC ML I have ever watched in an adaptation

I mean, think of MLs of Goodbye My Princess, TLTSILY, Sealed with a Kiss and even arguably Siege in Fog.

She was really gonna kneel to help his brother (and her revenge) and that's driving him insane

So good (he even broke his glass with the drink)

Yes, though I need to figure out if there is a Chinese term for makjang...

So it's the Republican Era in China and the cutest, switched-at-birth and unloved by his family doctor becomes a pen pal with this mysterious woman out for unspecified revenge and then he gets framed for a murder she committed and she fakes her death so he goes to jail for three years and has the tendons in his hands cut so he can never surgeon again...

He gets out and and then she's back! As his brother's fiance! Doctor Boy is very ANGST about it and Girl is all caught up in her revenge but at what cost!
