My newest favorite photo of my kid, @paxton.hsieh! P isn’t the most coordinated person in the world and so Brisa and I were absolutely shocked when he smoothly raced around the track like he’s been driving his whole life! The whole area is super busy with people and colors and distracting elements, so I wanted to channel my inner F1 photographer dreams and photograph P in a way that made him stand out. He completed 1 full lap, so I didn’t have much time to practice, but I went for it - The dramatic motion blur - that I always see in racing photography. It was such a perfect bonus that he looked like he was drifting coming back on to the straightaway. First family trip to Legoland was a massive success! No tears. No accidents. The weather was perfect and the park wasn’t crowded. The Deep Sea Adventure ride was everyone’s favorite! We waited 40 minutes each for two of the lamest rides (Royal Joust and Splash Battle), but P enjoyed them and that’s all that matters. And we couldn’t leave without buying a new Lego set. P walked around the entire store twice and finally decided on one that he and Addie loved looking at before bed last night! The kids did wake up with colds this morning, but still totally worth it! A year ago, I was photographing Morgan and Justin’s incredible wedding in Michigan. Throughout the day, Brisa was sending me updates on her efforts to get ahold of her dad. As the wedding reception was in full swing, I stepped out to check my phone. After reading Brisa’s text, I collapsed to my knees in shock at what I just read. I couldn’t believe it. That was impossible. Then, I gathered myself and went back into the reception. The joyfulness and exuberance of that celebration gave me just enough energy to prevent me from fully breaking down. A year later, we decided on Monday to make a trip to visit G-pa’s gravesite this weekend. Brisa called her soon to be 98 year old grandma to invite her to come and amazingly she said yes! Grandma, now GG (aka Great Grandma), flew by herself to AZ, and then we road tripped it to Alamogordo, NM. We spent the weekend playing in the White Sands and eating well at local restaurants in memory of him. Before driving back home, we picked up lunch and had a perfect picnic at his gravesite and reminisced about our son, father, father-in-law and G-Pa, Ruben. I can’t believe you’ve already been gone for a year. It still doesn’t feel real. And just like that, my little dude started kindergarten today! Unbelievable how quickly time passes. I remember being so worried that he wouldn’t walk, then worried that he wouldn’t talk, then worried that he wouldn’t figure out potty training and just like that, he’s independent, kindhearted , a rule follower, and is picky about everything. For Father’s Day this year, Brisa gave me a 1432 piece @mclaren F1 Lego set. Best gift ever. Like many, I got hooked on @f1 due to @netflix’s Drive to Survive and when I wake up early to watch the races, P always asks if I’m watching “race car news”. It took me about 8ish hours to put this together and P helped me here and there, but his favorite part was placing all of the stickers! It was the best that we could work on it together! The level of detail in this thing is ridiculous and just awesomely cool.
