"Unfinished Spaces" straddles two fronts of the LA Film Festival - as a competitor for Best Documentary and as part of the International Spotlight on Cuba series. Directed by Alysa Nahmias and Benjamin Murray, "Unfinished Spaces" is a fascinating piece of Cuban history told through the prism of three Cuban architects, (see review). The film documents the glorious inception in 1961 followed by the sudden halt in 1965 of Cuba's famed National Art Schools, a project that had been commissioned and then later denounced by Fidel Castro. ...

Having its World Premiere at the LA Film Festival is the documentary "Unfinished Spaces" by Alysa Nahmias and Benjamin Murray. Also in the Festival's Best Documentary competition, "Unfinished Spaces" examines a uniquely told story of Cuba's cultural history through the prism of three Cuban architects. It is a story that begins in 1961 and still continues today.

An explosively important and moving film rolled into theaters beginning June 22 in Los Angeles and New York and expands to select cities throughout the summer. "The Invisible War," a documentary by the award-winning filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, may have flown under your movie radar amid all the big summer releases, but seek it out.
