I remain convinced that Ed is canonically also in love with Oswald, and that we should have had an answer to all the hints about it. But the producers, for some obscure reason (homophobia...), put a stop to making this relationship explicit/endgame. It's not like with Byler, where Mike really didn't truly convey Will's feelings. In Gotham, there were tons of hints that Ed was potentially bisexual and had reciprocated feelings for Oswald. The writers just never made it explicit or official, and I strongly suspect that was because of the producers. The same producers who were the type to add the "We're brothers" line on the day of filming the scene in 5x11 without informing the writers... who, by the way, didn't appreciate it.
