hii !! i'm bear (he/him) and this is my boy lee kyuhui (041113). he's a third year film & moving arts major, the president of antares, and a member of the ice hockey team. here you can find his profile (his history page is currently in the works but should be up soon!) under the cut you'll find some info about him that could be helpful for plotting.
(this post was meant to go up way earlier and got lost in my drafts!)
born to a very well-off family who's 'main residence' was a large house in gangnam (very 'parasite') on november 13th 2004
he's the second son, and unknowingly has way more freedom than his brother ever had when it was clear he wasn't 'business minded' like his dad
he was clearly the favourite child, despite his academic weaknesses. this created tension between him and his brother, but kyuhui's a bit dense about why his brother resents him
outside of his family, kyuhui is liked by basically everyone he meets; he's that guy who's just so nice to everyone and so relaxed that even the people who aren't very nice can't be unkind to kyuhui
he wouldn't have called himself conventionally popular, but given everyone considered him a friend in high school, most would have said he was
he started throwing parties during high school, when his parents would offer to rent out a party house for him and his friends for halloween, or kyuhui's birthday, and he found he was great at party-planning, and enjoyed making sure everyone was having a good time
his fascination with films developed very young; he'd spend hours watching movies, and had old DVDs and VHS tapes piled up in his room. he'd make his own videos too the moment he got his hands on a camcorder
kyuhui's always filming life, and most of what he films are his parties, but he'll film anything. he likes to document life, but he rarely shares his thought process behind what he captures or why he puts things together the way he does unless it's for class
ever since his first year of college, kyuhui has been 'fucking his friends'... meaning he doesn't really see a reason why he and his friends can't seek relaxing, decompressing pleasure from each other without it messing up their friendship
a lot of kyuhuis closest friends have probably at least had the chance to jump in bed with him; it's a way he shows affection towards his friends a lot of the time
kyuhui rarely sits still for long; he's always been very active and involved in things, and since he has so many people he's friendly with, he's always go people to hang out with

Kyuhui can't hide the stiffness in his voice, nor does he think his brother will fail to notice it. Yunhui had always noticed everything. It's why he is the way he is; successful, highly-strung, terrifying in the quiet tension, as though he were a string pulled tight enough to snap any second. Kyuhui remembers a time before he was scared of Yunhui, when they were proper siblings who played and teased and spent time together.
Things changed when Yunhui was in high school, though. Pressure condensed him down into the hardest, yet shiniest crystal. He was impenetrable, and perfect in all the ways their parents cared about, but his diamond-cut edges were razor sharp, and he'd bitten into Kyuhui's skin enough for the scars to be a constant reminder to tiptoe around the egde of him.
Today, however, was his birthday, and Kyuhui wasn't heartless enough to 'forget' to call. In truth, he isn't sure Yunhui even wants to talk to him anymore. They barely knew each other, and spoke at most three or four times a year; on their respective birthdays, Chuseok, and Seollal. Surely, his brother would spend the evening out at an expensive restaurant with their parents. Kyuhui always made an excuse not to go--he was aware his presence around Yunhui only worsened his brothers mood.
He wasn't sure when the ill-feeling between them began, or when Yunhui decided he didn't like his younger brother, but Kyuhui had learnt, after many years of nasty comments, that Yunhui just did not like him. He had no idea why, given they'd gotten along quite well as children, but he didn't feel close enough to him to even ask at this point. Their relationship was so nonexistent it seemed a waste of breath to even try to remedy it.
"Fine. How are... your things?" Yunhui responds, an audible tension to his words mirroring Kyuhui's own. It's rather funny, that in so many ways, they're polar opposites, and still sometimes Kyuhui catches them revealing their sibling-ness.
"Yeah, pretty good. Uh, happy birthday man, you going to dinner with Mom and Dad tonight?"
"Thanks, and yeah. Are you... coming?"
"Oh, nah. Sorry, can't make it tonight I've got an assignment I gotta finish."
"Oh... okay." Kyuhui detects the way he doesn't sound disappointed at all, and his shoulders slump a little. He's not sure where things went wrong--he used to look up to Yunhui when they were kids. He was always the smart, academic one, and Kyuhui had been flat out terrible at Math, or anything that wasn't subjective and creative. Their parens had noticed early on that Yunhui had so much more potential that Kyuhui, which had been fine by him. They'd focused their attention on Yunhui's academic achievements and left Kyuhui to his books and movies.
"Well, uh... Mom's got your present from me." He'd left the receipt in, knowing he just didn't know his brother well enough to pick something he could confidently say he'd like. He'd gone with something safe; a silver tie clip with a long, thin, dark-blue gemstone fitted into it.
"Oh, uhm, thanks. Well, I'd better go. Got work to finish up." Kyuhui manages to fit in a hurried goodbye before Yunhui hangs up and he's left listening to the silence his brother's voice used to occupy.
Where did it all go wrong? It had been around the time Yunhui had been in elementary school, or right as he entered high school... Had studying just pushed them apart? It had been so long now, though, that Kyuhui found it hard to care enough about a broken relationship to put effort into mending it. Was there even enough of a relationship left there to fix? And how would he even go about fixing it when he saw his brother in person at most twice a year?
Once again, as with all other times Kyuhui had turned his relationship with his brother over in his head, he came to a dead end. There was nothing to be done, might as well put it out of his mind.
"I think some topics bear neverending discussion, dude." says Tyson, "And I don't know...I feel like vampires are kind of gay in general, but is Dracula? Like wasn't he into that chick?"
He thinks him and Kyuhui look like they're about to perform a surgery or dispose of a cadaver, or something, gloved up as they were, when in reality they were just about to pig out. He does think that if he were going to phone a friend to help him dispose of a body, Kyuhui would be sort of high up on the list. There's just something about the guy, a manic sort of loyalty, intense as he is, unwavering.
"Have you read Dracula?" he asks, "Because I haven't, I'm like, not that well-read, unfortunately. I think the last book I read and retained anything of was a Diary of a Wimpy Kid one. Do you guys have those here? But yeah, if the book says so, I guess he is gay, right?"
He takes a quick breath.
"And I think vampires are timeless. There's like the classic movie monsters that I don't think ever really go out of style, man."
He wonders for a second if they have Captain Underpants in Korea, too. That was another formative text for him, something that had informed much of who he was, philosophically and ideologically. He needed to step up his game while he could; pursue education properly. Kyuhui was out here reading gothic classics. Reading a proper novel was just sort of difficult for Tyson.
"Although...for a Halloween party theme," he begins, not giving Kyuhui much of a chance to even respond, gesticulating toward his friend with a sauced-up chicken wing like it's a wand, "Maybe they're a little played out."
"Maybe he was bi... Didn't he have like... luscious long eyelashes? And suspiciously nicely styled facial hair?" He strokes an imaginary beard, then tilts his head as he considers Dracula's interest in Lucy Westenra, "I don't think he was into her in that kinda way, it seemed much more that she was convenient and easy to hypnotise." If Kyuhui were a vampire trying to seduce someone into letting him suck their blood, he'd probably choose the easiest romance-loving person he could find too. Poor Lucy, killed by her big heart and softness.
"You haven't read Dracula? Dude, you have to! It's a classic!" Kyuhui had devoured the 19th century novel with gusto years back, and then challenged himself to read it in English too after he'd gotten a better grasp of the language in his late teens. "The book doesn't say he's gay, but there's some parts that, given the time it was written in, would indicate he wasn't your typical masculine man, which I guess was considered basically the same as being gay."
He hadn't read something casual and easy since he was in elementary school, and the realisation hits a little uncomfortably. He'd always thought that, given his limited time on earth, he should aim to make the most of the time he has available to only consume the very best in literature and film, but maybe he needed to see, and read, some real stinkers to remind him why the greats were so great.
"I've heard of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but I never read it. I liked The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea, and Children of the Rune series. Have you read those?" For a moment, a nostalgic burst of excitement blossoms in his chest at his memories of sitting beneath a tree in the playground at school, nose buried in a book that had been passed around almost every kid in his grade already. It had been all the rage at that time.
Grabbing another drumstick once he's tossed the completely cleaned off bone of his last one into the plastic bag their food was delivered in, Kyuhui hums. "You're right though. I don't want to go to all the effort of trying to make something overdone unique, when I could pick something already unique. Do you have ideas for what you'll dress up as yet?"

It's not often Kyuhui settles in for a relaxing, slow-paced evening. Typically he spends this time of night readying himself for a 'gathering' of some kind; fluffing his already unruly hair and donning jeans, in place of his usual sweats. Tonight, however, is all about sinking into his shitty secondhand couch, stuffing his face with fried chicken, and discussing the prominent themes in the movies he'd lined up for tonight's marathon with Tyson.
His socked feet nudge his friends thigh, poking the soft flesh. "Do you think Dracula's a gay icon? Is this an overly discussed topic?" His mouth is half full of semi-chewed chicken, and he just about manages not to spit his food all over the place. At least he'd donned the plastic gloves this time--a weak effort to stay somewhat presentable. "I know in the original novel there's lots of hints at him being that way inclined in a stereotype-y way, but can we like... claim him?"
The night is young; there's time for their conversation to grow deeper and more meaningful, but for now Kyuhui feels playful. There are hours ahead for talk of the subtleties of the movies he's lined up and the commentary on society at the time they were made, or the demographics they included, or the themes they displayed, but for now, it was all about Gay Dracula. "Also, do you think vampires as a Halloween costume is overdone? I'm already considering my options for this years party."
