Kyle laughed. "Maybe I was just tired of being so dirty. But yes -- I do remember you freaking out over how messy I was." He leaned back against the counter. "I should have known that's what you wanted to eat." He went over to the fridge and pulled out a bag of frozen french fries. He moved things around to look for things. "I would buy this stuff just for you for when you came over." He pulled out the bag of frozen chicken tenders and set them on the counter next to the bag of fries. "It sounds ridiculous but I kinda missed you too much to eat any of it while you were gone. Like -- at restaurants I usually get buffalo wings or something with Buffalo chicken, but it kinda made me sad because it reminded me of you." He let out a soft laugh. "But anyway, are you gonna help cook or do you just wanna sit and look pretty?"

Kyle paused and looked at her while he thought about whether or not he should cancel the food he ordered. He let out a sigh, “The people are probably going to be really unhappy with me, but -- I guess if it makes you happy.” He pulled his phone from his pockets and called the restaurant her ordered the food from to let them know he wanted to cancel his order. He set his phone off to the side once he was done with the call. “Me? The messy one?” He tried to fight the smile that was forming on his lips. “Look at how clean this place is. Even my room is pretty clean. -- just don’t go into the closet.” He opened the fridge to grab a water. “So what are we cooking?”

I am proud to be the granddaughter and daughter of immigrants who were brave enough to leave their homes and come to a whole new world with a different language and culture and immerse themselves fearlessly to start a better life for themselves and their families.

Kyle shook his head and laughed. "Nice to know that even when I'm dressed lazy I'm still turning you on." He threw his head back and shut his eyes tightly. "You can't do that bitting your lip thing." He brought his head back up and looked at her. He nodded his head, "Yeah, you can cook. I can help if you need anything." He stood up along with her. "Try not to mess up my kitchen to much." He kissed her cheek before moving toward the kitchen area.

Kyle shook his head. “Nothing.” He bit on the inside of his mouth nervously, knowing she was right and there was no way they would have been able to be just friends. “We’re together now so that’s all that really matters.” He kissed the top of her head. “I do cook. I was just going to be lazy tonight. I wasn’t exactly expecting any company, as you can see.” He motioned to the sweatpants he was wearing. 

“At least your crazy side is kinda sexy.” Kyle said under his breath along with a sigh. “I didn’t see that as me giving up on you though. Even all those times where I walked away from you, I wasn’t walking away from you entirely. I wanted us to remain friends no matter what.” He shrugged his shoulders. He opened his mouth to say something in response to her apology, but instead decided to keep his thoughts to himself. “Is there anything you need or wanted?” He looked down at her. “Like are you hungry or something? I ordered food and it’s supposed to be here soon, but.. I have snacks and stuff.”

"I honestly don't remember a time where I've given up on us, not even when I was married to someone else, so I must have been on drugs or something during that time." Kyle said with a sigh. He leaned back into the couch and kicked his feet up onto the coffee table. "I'm nervous around you because you kinda just hurt me and I just instinctively am putting distance between us. I can't help it." He picked up the remote and messed with it so he wouldn't have to look at her. He finally did look up at her when she said she missed him. He let out another sigh and dropped his head low. "It feels nice hearing you miss me." He reached over and wrapped his arm around her waist, tugging at her to come close to him. "And I do believe you. You probably went crazy without me." He teased her.

Kyle began to roll his eyes, but then stopped himself. “You can use that excuse, but I’ve been here for you for a long time. I constantly tell you that I’m here for you. I have never turned away from you for anything you’ve done. So no offense but that excuse kinda sucks.” He let out a sigh. “I’m sorry your family turned away from you though.” He bit on the inside of his cheek nervously. He avoided making eye contact with her out of fear of how she might be looking at him. “I’m a little nervous, but I wouldn’t say I’m uncomfortable.” He shrugged his shoulders. “I wouldn’t have offered you space to stay here if I didn’t want you here. I would try my best not to let anything happen to you. And like I said before -- I miss you.”

Kyle shrugged his shoulders. "You could have come to me. You just chose not to. But I'm kinda used to this stuff so it's whatever." He felt his heart sink into his stomach when she leaned into him. He found himself holding his breath as she grew closer. "I mean -- of course I want you to. But it's up to you." He lightened his hold on her hands and took a step back. "You don't have to. I won't be offended if you don't want to stay here. I'm sure you have other things -- other people."

Kyle forced a smile to try and lighten the mood. “You always have me. Literally no matter what – you are one of my best friends and I’d always do anything for you.” Kyle nodded his head slowly. “Well yeah, unless you don’t want to.” He shrugged his shoulders. “I really wanna be here for you. And I miss you.” He grabbed her hands and laced their fingers together. “There’s plenty of room here for you too.”

Kyle shook his head and stood up with her. "No -- I don't want you to go." He grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "I didn't mean it like that. I would never turn against you. I will always, always be here to help you with anything." He cupped her face with both of his hands. He gently rubbed his thumb under her bruised eye. His face scrunched up at the thought of someone physically harming her. He kissed her forehead before wrapping his arms around her and hugging her tightly. "Stay. I don't care if I'm in danger or whatever. We can get through this."

Kyle rolled his eyes and shook his head. "I would never judge you for anything and I wish you would trust me on that." He looked down at his lap. "I have done plenty of bad things that I couldn't judge you even if I wanted to. But I love you -- more than you know and I would never judge you." He felt his heart skip a beat when she touched his cheek. He rested his hand on her thigh and massaged it gently. "Never ever think that my life would be happier without you under any circumstances. You need to come to me about these things. I rather you come and tell me everything than run away." He looked at her. He found himself staring into her eyes and not being able to look away. He let out a sigh and forced himself to look away. "I told myself if you came back I wouldn't give into you but this is hard." He dropped his head low.

Kyle didn't know how he felt with her being in the same room. He was feeling a mixture of emotions and he didn't know what to do with them. When she sat down next to him all he did was look at her. He didn't speak the whole time she explained the situation to him. He was shocked to hear what she had to say and also frustrated that she hadn't come to him in the beginning. Once she was finished talking he remained silent for a few moments while looking at her. Without any thought he leaned in and pressed his lips against hers. He kissed her hard for a few seconds before pulling away. He let out a sigh and bit on his lip. "You should have just come to me instead of running away. I know you were trying to protect me, but.. You hurt me more by running away." He finally spoke up.

Kyle nodded his head in response to her comment. He didn’t know what to say so he kept quiet. He walked over to the couch and sat down. He was too nervous to look directly at her so instead he looked around and occasionally glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. His eyebrows raised up and down when she made another comment about her being back. “I see.” He said in a soft voice. “So what happened?” He finally looked directly at her, but panicked and looked away quickly again.

Kyle was confused when he saw a stranger standing in his doorway. He didn’t know if they were at the wrong door or if it was someone he just forgot he knew. When the girl pulled off the glasses it took him a second before he realized who it was. His jaw dropped, but he didn’t say anything. “Oh – uh, yeah.” He backed up and pulled the door open more wide for her. “I guess.” He mumbled under his breath. He let out a sigh. Suddenly his heart was banging on his chest. The last person he was expecting to see showed up. He closed the door after her and locked it.
