Kitchener Waterloo Rug Hooking Guild

Our Rug Hookers have jumped right into spring, going which way and that, to Hook-Ins in Woodstock and Owen Sound, the Hockley Valley Rug Hooking retreat, the WeftFest Fibre Arts Festival in Waterloo , and then many are off straight away to the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild Annual Conference in Oakville this weekend. The rug hooking display at this event will be amazing.

We love sharing rug hooking with others.

Many of us have started planning and hooking on our latest guild project that has touched the hearts of our KWRHG members.

KWRHG member, Lorna Vogel, hooked this proddy rug using Sari Silk she won at one of the many hook-ins organized by Guilds and vendors. The Kitchener Waterloo Rug Hooking Guild Regional Hook-In is this Saturday Nov 1, 2025. You are welcome to join us.

Summer outside hook ins at Winston Park and Castle Kilbride are winding down also. Join us if you can on Aug 22 and Aug 28.

A new season of rug hooking meetings begins in September - 3 times a month.   See our events page for dates.    Guild membership renewal starts Sept 1.  We welcome new members at any time. 

 Rug Hooking events are quickly filling up our calendars.   Our guild has another day retreat at Crieff Hills on Oct 18 and hosting our popular Regional Hook in on Nov 1. Details on our events page.

Lorna, Donna and Susan from our Guild went to Guatemala in 2024 for the MultiColores Rug Hooking Tour. They shared their adventure with us at our May meeting . These are the hooked rugs they started on this tour.

Although not known for Rug Hooking, the Maya women have embraced this hooking craft: using fabulous bright colors from repurposed t-shirt fabrics, they create original designs inspired by traditional motifs, geometrics and figurative shapes such as birds and animals. Their rugs are exhibited in galleries in the US and provide income for their families and pay for improvements in their villages. An amazing story !
