during the summers i would work my seasonal job at a local summer camp. i was a camp counselor for about 4 years. my job was to supervise an allotted group of children makin sure they were safe, havin fun, and makin the most out of their summer. with field trips (one trip a week), talent shows, swimming, etc the job left me physically & mentally exhausted but i love children and it was my pleasure to return every year. i learned just as much from them as they learned from me, like how important the simple things in life are. things like laughing, playing, and being excited about the day ahead w/out having control over what happens, goin w/ the flow. these are the lesson i learned from my children. i later got a promotion to work w/ teens as the head a of the teen leadership program, i ran the film and media program. even though I didn’t know much about film ( besides the fact that I enjoyed films) i challenged myself and learned new skills. it was hard for me to take this position because i has to leave the younger kids (the babies🤗) who I cared for every year. my teen students and i had an amazing summer learning from eachother and curating films for the city of l.a as well as personal films that showcased important topics like gentrification and homelessness. this picture was from my interview. one of my students wanted to start a podcast and i fully supported the idea and was their first guest speaker. i will miss my summers at the summer camp as i move on to my next chapter in life. 💙✨
